Guess Carlos Boozer's new contract!
I'm going to guess he doesn't opt out after all and instead shoots for a 2010 payday.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

That would be very stupid of him.
I say he will re-sign with Utah for 6 yrs 80 mil.

Re: Guess Carlos Boozer's new contract!
I think Boozer is going to find out that the market isn't nearly as lucrative as he thought it was going to be. If he opts out, I'm guessing he gets 4 years (with a 5th team option) for $50 mil.
More than likely, though, he does not opt out. The Jazz will end up losing Millsap, but will be big players in 2010 free agency when Memo, Booz, Korver, and Harpring all come off of the books.

Considering Detroit has the money to spend, and nearly no one else to spend it on, look for the Max people.

They can save for another year.

Yeah, Detroit can save for another year and target 2 FA's, and be just one of the dozen+ teams that have money to spend in 2010. Or they can try to get an all-star PF, and have only the Hawks (who I doubt go after Boozer) and OKC to challenge to get him this year.
If the Jazz were in Detroit's position I would really want my team going after Booze this year to make sure you get someone, and then hope next year you get one of the other big names.

If Milsap's jumpshot was a little more developed I would feel more comfortable with this whole Boozer-leaving-us-for-more-money-because-he's-a-greedy-bastard idea. Since Boozer's proven himself to be a consistent 20 and 10 when he's healthy, I think the Jazz should plan on trying to get him to stay. I hate to see Milsap leave though. Maybe my wildest dreams will come true this summer and we'll keep both 'em.

We are a poor defensive rebounding team without Booze.

Detroit hasn't offered the max very freely. I would guess 5years for about $60M.

If Boozer comes back from this injury sometime soon, and then tears it up for the rest of the season, then it's quite possible.
On the other hand, the longer this thing drags out, or if he has a so-so comeback, the more I see Booze deciding not to opt out.
I think the injury concern is a HUGE factor when talking about max money, and the way things are right now, I'd have to believe that teams will be even more cautious than usual when it comes to handing out that kinda scratch.
Then again, maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part.

Detroit isn't spending the max. Period.
Hell, we didn't want to give Ben Wallace anymore than $12 million a year.

He didn't want to give Wallace more than $12 million for good reason. His contract is an albatross and has been for several years now. Boozer should start at about $13 mill and progress to $17 mill over five years or so. He should also be an All Star in each of those five years, as long as he can play.
