Re: Roy vs. Foye?
I just think it is annoying to complain about something in the past. The fact is we have Foye. So how can we use him the best for this team? I could care less that portland has Roy. You can go over every draft and project and decide and "what if" to death every player. But all you are doing is whining. What if Roy had the knee issue and coaching problems Foye had? What if both players quit to becoming country music stars? It is all the same really.

You're right. Or Darko over Wade, Bosh and Carmelo. Or a million others.
I use a baseball analogy. McHale got a hanging slider, and some people are mad at McHale because he didn't hit a home run. It's more like hit it off the wall, and Foye's either a long single or might stretch into a double. He most assuredly did not strike out -- Sheldon Williams, who went the pick before -- was a whiff.

The point of (admittedly drunkenly) resurrecting this thread was not to say Foye is better than Roy. Denying Roy is better than Foye is just silly. But exaggerating the gulf is just as silly.

Good topic, original...Yes he is better. You win some you loose some. Lots of people thought Kevin Mchale made a great move at the time. But WTF Foye scored like 36 last night give the kid a break. He isn't a bust. I'm sure he is more sick of the comparison than any of us on this forum.

but Foye looks like he has a chance to become a 20 ppg scorer and a great compliment to Al jefferson, and really thats what we want. so its not like we lost the trade. we just.......... didnt win.
As good of a compliment Foye could be to Jefferson, Roy would be that much better. The way its looking, the only way Foye is going to average 20 ppg is on 40% shooting. Honestly, the guy kinda reminds me of Jamal Crawford, not stylistically but production.

I will use the baseball analogy as well. It's like, in that draft a fat pitch was thrown right down the middle of the strike zone that should have been a homerun (Brandon Roy) but instead was converted for a single (Randy Foye). Sure, the single looks nice on the stat sheet, but it doesn't help when there are 2 outs and the opposing team is up by 1 (Garnett was about to leave) and the person on deck is Adam Everett (Corey Brewer).

I'm not sure there's much difference between my "hanging slider" and your "fat pitch," but I disagree that either "should have been a home run." The only pitch this fat I can remember in recent drafts is LeBron James .. after that, particularly sixth pick in the draft, involves uncertainty. After all, ATL got the exact same "fat pitch" and struck out with Sheldon Williams.
Just because you wanted it to be Roy doesn't mean that pick was a no-brainer. There was a lot of discussion among the three different players. KG had always played best next to a strong PG, and there may have been hopes that would be Foye.

That's what makes it so ironic, even in college Brandon Roy played much more like a point guard then Randy Foye who played small forward in college. Even today Brandon Roy could probably be a full time point guard and be one of the better point guards in teh league if needed. Either way, no it wasn't a Lebron James type situation but Roy was definitely a better prospect then Randy Foye.
