This is EXACTLY what I've been saying for weeks. It'd be one thing if the Knicks were the 2 seed or something...but they're not. Even if Marbury comes here and helps us win, who cares? The Knicks are another decade away from contending (unless Stern steps in) so who gives a flying ****?

Ok, first of all it isn't about the Celtics.

Second...
1) Knicks will need to pay another player to replace marbury, if Marbury doesn't offer more than 2 million on a buyout, knicks might as well keep him
2) Knicks don't need to act nice to a lockerroom cancer if he isn't giving them a deal. He spent plenty of time on the bench this season, it wont kill us to have him left on the bench till the end of the season.

Look, the Knicks could save 2M from Marbury if he gives up 1M in a buyout because of the dollar for dollar luxury tax. Additionally, if as a part of the buyout negotiations he agrees to drop his 400K arbitration against the Knicks, they could potentially save that as well, for a total savings of 2.4M.

If they do the Marbury buyout and have to add a player to the team, the NBA minimum salary is 442K. Double that because of the tax to 884.

They could still save roughly 1.6M. Still very much worth their while financially.

Looks like the Knicks are close to signing C. Samb, the 7-footer drafted in the second round by the Lakers. Maybe the Walsh and Marbury came to an agreement?

R33D33, I know it's not about the Knicks but Walsh did state early in the season he would not give Marbury to a division rival, which gets to the point JoeBiscuit and I were mentioning...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

What's the context of the quote, maybe he meant he wouldn't give Marbury away in trade. As stated earlier, Walsh has no control where Marbury goes. Something has to give, maybe a contract agreement that says if Marbury leaves to an eastern conference team, he gives X amount of dollars back. If he goes to a team on the west, it would be a full buyout. Maybe something along those lines, again pure speculation, obviously could be wrong.

Also off-topic, we aren't division rivals unless you are calling fighting for lottery position two seasons ago being division rivals.

I know we're not division rivals but the media (and a lot of Knicks posters who troll on here) seem to think so! 8-)

But I do remember him saying he would do everything in his power to keep Marbury out of the division...and I agree with you, quite how he intends to do that I do not know...

I'm a knick poster and a knick fan, the only way for us to be rivals is for us to actually be good.

Though from the looks of it, a buyout may come soon since the Knicks are coming close to signing with Samb.
