Rajon Rondo was Brilliant Against Denver Tonight

Post#1 » by Jammer » Tue Feb 24, 2009 4:51 am

I am not putting this in the game thread because I feel it warrants it's own attention.

After yesterday's game for the ages by Rajon Rondo against Phoenix,
where Rajon scored 32 points on 13-18 FGs, 10 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals
(which you might think the aging legs of Steve Nash, Shaq and Grant Hill assisted);

Rajon delivers a brilliant performance against Chauncey Billups,
scoring 14 points (5-7 FG, 4-5 FT), 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 2 TO's, 2 fouls.

The only reason I'm voting Ray for the victory cigar is that by starting off
with those 2 quick 3 point makes and a 2 (8 fast points),
Ray set the tone that the Celtics established for the game
(Ray was 6-11 from 3 !!!).

But Ray's 26 pts. and 6 rebounds are almost overshadowed by Rondo's STUNNING achievement.

Rondo is improving monthly; step by step and inch by inch he is becoming more consistent. Hopefully by the playoffs Rondo is getting close to 4 mins a game.

Rondo has been great all year long but these last few games were his best.

If this year's Rondo were playing in last year's playoffs road games........watch out!

That's a bit of a conservative estimate, Triple M.

Rondo's confidence is soaring and his game is ascending right along with it.

Rondo needs to keep the armband - it's magic!

it seems like when Rajon Rondo plays like this and dominates a game, we are always involved in a blowout and therefore he never plays the 4th quarter when he is close to a triple double

11-7-12 30 minutes
15-8-7 28 minutes
20-7-7 29 minutes
16-8-7 33 minutes
8-9-14 27 minutes
12-10-7 32 minutes

and tonight

14-8-8 31 minutes

Rajon Rondo will lead this team in rebounds while KG is out. Book it.

Early in the season Heinsohn made a stunning remark about Rondo. And I'm coming to respect Heinsohn's wisdom more and more.

After a particuarly good game by Rondo Heinsohn was asked if the thought Rondo was about as good as he was going to get? Heinsohn replied he thought that Rondo was at about 30% of his peak capability. He said in time Rondo will be able to dissect the opponents by adjusting our team's play to their weaknesses. He then went on about how the eye contact alleyoop play to Garnet could break a team's spirit and there were other ways a PG could.

After that comment, I'm not going to be surprised at anything Rondo does.

Tommy quoted for truth :)

I was unable to watch the game live due to a gig early in the morning but I'm sure to watch the replay on International League Pass Broadband.

I think the one good thing about KG being out is that Rondo has to step it up and he has to be in attack mode. Rondo being able to get in the lane at well is just like having a 7ft center in the lane that requires a double team. Rondo is putting the pressure on the defense in the last two games which allows for open shots for Paul, Ray and Scal. I just hope Rondo continues to stay in attack mode even when KG comes back because Rondo to me has a lot of Tony Parker in him.

Agreed. And what I also liked in these two games was that he took a few jumpers and a couple of flowters. He is expanding his offensive game, which is beautiful to watch. He still has ways to go but I like the improvement!

Yeah Rondo was amazing...he has been getting better. If he can just solve the confidence issues and develop a jumper, he will be unstoppable! :rocking:
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

+1 I totally agree with you on this, when i saw the phoenix game I was hoping he would continue to wear that sleeve. Not that rondo has been shooting a bad percentage but perhaps the sleeve will give him some more confidence or more of like a mental thing. Hey the sleeve worked for ray in last years playoffs so why not rondo.

Rondo had a great game and set the tone early. He also shut down Billups, who only had 3 points.
