Or in hockey there are those clowns that bought the Tampa Bay Lightning. They got the first round pick in the last draft (Stamkos), and then proceeded to sign a bunch of offensive guys, instead of a proper defense, and they hired the mullet, Barry Melrose, as the coach. Melrose hadn't coached in over a decade.

Sorry to say, but MLSE is doing just what we want. They have put the team in the hands of a respected basketball man.

:o Because Bryan Colangelo isn't a respect basketball man?

I wonder if this story is basketball related. MLSE probably did expect at least one round of playoffs from the basketball side. Now it looks like nothing. Oh, and BC may want to hire a new coach while Smitch collects a cheque at home.

Tampa Bay made playoff runs & even won the cup in the last 10 years. Bad comparison.

And.......which Toronto team has even tasted any playoff success in the last 10 years?

It could be basketball related because people buying leaf tickets must buy raptor tickets

How many sports teams don't really have a defined owner?

Knicks and Rangers - Cablevision
Sixers and Flyers - Comcast has a control block in both

In many other cities, the ownership is a group of people with different percentages, like Atlanta, where the so-called Atlanta Spirit group that owns the Hawks and Thrashers is among the most dysfunctional collection in sports.

For every Cuban, there is a Sterling or Heisley or Wirtz.

The Toronto model has the virtue of stability - the parts are worth less than the sum of the whole so it is unlikely MLSE will ever sell of the Raptors or Leafs and allow the team to move to another city.

I've never been to a Leafs game and I don't plan on doing so any time soon. The team is garbage and the ticket prices are outrageous.

I'm not the least bit surprised. Why wouldn't they raise prices? People will continue to buy them regardlesss of the cost.

Return to Toronto Maple Leafs
