OT: Just curious, which team signs Marbury in off season?

Post#1 » by campybatman » Wed Feb 25, 2009 3:29 pm

Presumingly, if he succeeds in Boston this season. By success I mean he's able to show without a doubt that he can still play in the league. Because we all can agree that Marbury will be motivated to earn a new contract this off season. What's interesting is that you could've both Marbury and Iverson as parts of the same free agency class.

I didn't say Boston since Ainge I feel will be preoccupied with other more pressing decisions pertaining to Boston's reserve players.

Houston
Dallas ...if they dont re sign Kidd
Atlanta ...of they dont re sign Bibby
Golden State

and us... if he plays well and isnt trouble in the lockerroom and is fine playing a backup 1/2. why not?

Dallas wants to resign Kidd. I can see Miami having an interest.

My guess is the C's or Houston. Houston has Brooks who I believe is their future but Marbury would be great coming off the bench as their backup pg. I could see Danny resigning him too but Steph might get more money playing somewhere else. Danny is going to be looking at small short term deals and I don't think that agrees with what Steph will expect.

Too soon to tell, but I don't know if we could resign him if we wanted to....wouldn't his price tag be too high?

What kind of dollars and length do you think he could get?

If I am GM, I sign him to short-deal that is the contractual equivalent of "Prove it to me."

I hope he works out and helps out the Celtics. I really hope he does not f'ck with Rondo's mind.

Yeah unless he shows a 180 degree turn in attitude in a short stint with us most teams will shy away from him. Plus there will be some decent free agents who will get the mid-level this off season. I would love to see Ron Artest here for a mid-level. I can see the Clippers signing him. They always make really sound Basketball decisions.

Completely depends on what role he wants. If he's content sitting on the bench, then he'll probably stay here, but he'll have a few suitors if he performs well here and wants a starting gig.

I think Miami would be a possibility.

Bobcats? Pacers? Pistons? A second try with the Wolves? Those teams may need a PG enough to give him a legit shot.

Clippers. :P or some crap team like that. Some lousy team will see what he is going to do for us and will sign him for big bucks again. The Clippers have that pattern... Shell out the big bucks - then look to dump the guy for peanuts..

Marbury gave up like $2.5M in his buyout deal, I'm guessing. So, he might be looking to recoup that with a new team. I'm thinking his aim for the summer is to sign for half of the MLE. Or he may even go the Grant Hill route and sign just for one-year and attempt to prove his worth, again.

Absolutely nobody other than the Celtics. Maybe the Clippers to be the Clippers.

I don't think his price would be too high for us, because I don't think he'd ask for a 20 million dollar contract. hes older now. its possible we could resign him.
Ray still got game.

If this happened, though, I'd be afraid of him acting like TO did for the Eagles...model soldier his first year, team-destroying malcontent the next...
