OT -Delgado Blames Playing In Toronto On Lack Of Recognition

Post#1 » by RealGood » Wed Feb 25, 2009 4:24 pm

"I didn't get full credit because I was playing in Toronto," said Delgado. "That's it. That's my opinion. I might be wrong. I don't think about the whole steroid deal. I don't know if somebody did it or how much it affected the game. I just look at the numbers. That's the only thing you can go on.

He was mentioned in a verse by Lauren Hill off the Guantanamera track on Wyclef's , the Carnival album. He should be happy with that.

Yah, I guess Clemens didn't get full respect, or Hentgen for that matter in the CY Young votes because they played in Toronto, or George Bell didn't get the MVP because he played in Toronto, or that no MLB players wanted to come play in Toronto due to the "lack of respect", oh wait, yah just about the opposite, CY Young winners, Halladay being "respected" as one of the best starters in the league, back to back world series......shutup Carlos.

What can we say? Hopefully his words don't deter talented players further.

And yeah Clemmens won the Triple Crown. Your performance gets recognized, what did he want commercials?

There is no doubt that if he were pulling off these numbers and was a Yankee he would have gotten more recognition. But what if he was a Miwaukee Brewer?

Carlos has been putting up the same numbers he did in Toronto for the Mets for the past 3 years and he's fallen even further off the map.

Maybe if he had something called a personality, he might be a little more popular.

Q: Who is George W. Bush's favourite pitcher (according to an interview conducted last year).

A: Roy Halladay.

But then, GWB is famous for his cosmopolitan tastes.

I don't think it was so much the physical location he's referring to, but rather tha fact that the Jays have not been a relevent team for 16 years. Winners get recognition. We need to get back to the playoffs.

So true. Even when you look at Vince's case - has he really gained that much more popularity and acclaim in the swamp then when he has here?

If I'm not mistaken, he was playing on national tv, on the cover of SI, and on every highlight reel in North America.

The Jays haven't made the playoffs since their world series win, wow.

It's a little hard to make the playoffs when the 2 teams above you are throwing around money like it was water.

I actually liked him when he played here, and he's still not a bad dude. BUT he is somewhat of an attention seeker and cry baby, which became most obvious when he wanted another huge contract that the Jays wouldn't give him.

Delgado has a street named after him in Mississauga. That should be enough.

Jose Cruz and Kelvim Escobar, too.

http://www.thestar.com/article/560694

Jose Cruz Jr. played six mediocre seasons for the Toronto Blue Jays. The Jays tried to trade him during five of them. When his contract expired in 2002, the team let him sign with San Francisco, where he did nothing remarkable.

There is a street named for him in Mississauga.

It is just down the road from Escobar Cres., named for Kelvim Escobar, an inconsistent former Jays pitcher who was once sued for allegedly drugging a woman and having sex with her without her consent.

Which is adjacent to Clemens Cres., named for superstar pitcher Roger Clemens, who was accused in 2008 of both using steroids and having an affair with a country singer that began when she was 15.

I don't think he was making reference to the Canadian point, but that there are bigger markets where the media focuses.

He also out voted Michael frickin Jordan for the all-star game.

Players who deserve recognition, will get it. Cleveland is in the middle of nowhere and look at the NBA golden child. This is a waste of time.

I'm pretty shocked by Delgado, seems like sour grapes. The big light in NY didn't help him, if anything, he had more recognition being the leader here. The Blue Jays, over the years, had their share of big name signings and championships. If he feels that way whatever, he's wrong though.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

I'm sure there's still an advertisement at a bus stop at McMaster with him wearing a blue jays jersey. I think that's more than enough recognition.

Yeah. :(

It sucks having to play in the same division as Boston and New York.

Now Tampa is in the mix.
