Wow, must be a special felling when you come and you must decide which number to wear and then realize that the Celtics have 21 numbers retired. If not before, that moment you know it is a special basketball team. Celtic pride.

Its a joke #7 Nate "Tiny" Archibald isn't retired. He played here 5 years and he started on the 81 Championship team. He was an all star in Boston as well as I saw him play recently on Classic in the 82 All Star Game. He is also the only player in NBA history to lead the league in ppg and apg in the same season! I know he wasn't a celtic then but he should still be retired as one IMO.

Its kind of like Ray Allen. Even though his prime wasn't here he should still be retired as a Celtic for helping us bring a Championship back to Boston.

Thoughts?

But you can't just retire everyone. You won't have any numbers left for players to wear. IMO, to get your number retired by the Celtics, you need to have been here for much of your career. That's why I don't think KG's number should be retired either. He'll get his retired by the T-Wolves though.

I think KG will definitely get his number retired by the C's. He'll have a good chunk of years in a Celtics jersey by then, and responsible for at least 1 World Championship. And one of the 50 Greatest of All Time.

Unless Ray ever gets traded, is it possible that he won't get his jersey retired but Paul and KG do? I can't see it happening.

Tiny was good for us, no doubt, but he made his name well before he came to the C's. So did Ray and KG. The C's had Tiny and Bird and didn't win...it took teaming up Bird with McHale and Parish to do that, and those 3 were here for over a decade and won 2 more rings.

It's all about context. That's why we need to wait and see what happens with Ray and KG here...Paul is a shoo-in, though...

That's exactly how I feel. And I remember a few years back, at the height of "Trade Paul" movement in Boston. Wyc came on NBA.TV and when asked if they are going to trade Paul, he said something like, "Paul is staying a Celtic and we're going to retire his jersey."
