Brian Scalabrine = Matt Bonner

Post#1 » by banksxs » Thu Feb 26, 2009 3:11 pm

How different/similar are these two guys?

They're both undersized (almost) bigs who step in and fill the center/pf spot when someone goes down (duncan, garnett, perkins, etc). They both can spot up from the outside and hit a couple of three's too.

Would Spurs fans rather have Scal (considering he's healthy) and would Boston prefer Bonner instead?

Your thoughts?

Bonner is a 4, I'd say, and has a better shot and is better on offense. He's first in the leauge in 3 point %.

Scal is a 3/4 and is way better on defense.

Bonner is better an it isn't close. He is a way better shooter, and a way way better rebounder. Scal is NOT a better defender.

Nope, incorrect. Scal is better 1v1 and in a team defensive scheme.

You forgot the most obvious similarity: They both have Red Hair!

Man-to-man at the 3 Scal is better than bonner on D... however, that is like saying I'm better man-to-man at the 3 compared to my younger brother. It's true to it's irrelevant because neither of us have any business doing.

Bottom line...
Bonner is a 4 who is a great shooter for his position, an average rebounder, and a servicable defender.
Scal is a 3 who is an average shooter for his poistion, a poor rebounder, and a servicable defender.

Booner is a solid bench player in the NBA, Scal is not a rotation caliber player.

Scal is much, much better defender! It is not even close.

But Bonner is a better offensive player...

I like Bonner and would much rather have him than Scal. He always seems to torch us as well when we play against him.

True...I guarantee if Celtics fans had a choice between the 2, we'd pick Bonner, and not just cos he's from NH...

Bonner is a more capable defender and a better shooter and has statistically been underrated for a few seasons now, while he is finally starting to gain recognition.

Exactly. I don't think another team in the league (except the Clippers or any team Chris Wallace runs) would trade 2 pairs of shoes and a deflated basketball for Scal...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
