If this happened, though, I'd be afraid of him acting like TO did for the Eagles...model soldier his first year, team-destroying malcontent the next...

yeah, thats something to think about. we'll have to wait to see how this pans out...

First he has to prove he can still play.

Doing that he is going to prove that he is capable sixth man, but at his age he isn't anything more than a stop gap as a starter and with his baggage not exactly what a team that is trying to build is going to be interested in.

I think that his best chance to get paid is as a 6th man bench scorer on a contender, assuming he can accept and excel in that situation. Depending the interest he could get 3-5 mil to do that assuming this is going to be a real sucky FA year.

My guess is he gets a nice offer to go overseas and he is gone.

As a Knicks fan, I've been wondering that myself for a while. I think there's such a huge disparity between his worth as perceived by NBA GMs and his worth as perceived by himself, that he may wind up in Europe, where he might at least get a contract and reception more in line with his expectations (I mean, if Josh Childress is what passes for a star...). Of course, Euro teams are getting hit just as hard by the economy, so even that route may be less palatable.

As much as anything else, I think a lot of Marbury's troubles begin with his refusal to have an agent. That's all well and good if you're Ray Allen (I think?), who is intelligent and mature enough to rep himself and just bring in a lawyer for paperwork, but Marbury has really suffered for lack of a cooler head to advocate on his behalf, just as I think he may suffer this summer for lack of someone to explain to him that the only way forward for him in the NBA is as a role player.

One way or the other, I think his team-destroying days are over. That kind of destructiveness requires leverage -- such as a contract you can't move, production you can't do without, or potential you can't give up on -- and his is a thing of the past. It will be very interesting to see whether or not he realizes this.

^I suppose...also, unlike TO who is a gamechanger (even though he *is* amazingly overrated), Marbury is not...so he does have NO leverage whatsoever...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

I could see it playing out where he does well for us and then want our MLE. We decided to give it to Sheed or Artest or someone else and then he feels slighted by the LLE or Vet min offer and moves on. If we could resign him and bring in Sheed, watch out.

Perk/Sheed
KG/Sheed
PP/
Allen/Starbury
Rondo/Starbury

still possibly have house powe pruitte allen baby maybe find a nice rookie.

I can't guage his value at this point though. How many teams are going to be under the cap and willing to pay more than MLE type money to him? I'd guess not (m)any.

I concur. We saw this in fact already. Initially, interest was high to sign Marbury and, then it shifted to Pargo. There still could be interest in Marbury overseas. However, offers might be more closer to what he sees from NBA teams. And I believe Marbury doesn't have an agent which doesn't help. I don't know, maybe he has one now.

Best Fit: Celtics and Miami

Best Paycheck: ?

Steph may actually like his coach, team, and role.

I can see Miami double crossing him, in terms of expectations versus role once signed.
That won't happen with the Celtics.

Come on we all know Stephan is all about money.. otherwise he would have long ago worked on a buyout with the Knicks..

Can the celtics afford to pay a backup PG 7-8 million.. thats what he will be looking for..

Return to Boston Celtics
