Just to prove I'm not riding Hollinger's jock, here is an excellent example of how his formula-based approach fails.
I'm virtually certain he works in an advisory capacity to a number of NBA franchises. A few years back one of those teams, the Spurs, signed some stiff named Jackie Butler to a contract entirely because Hollinger projected him to a have a ridiculously good PER (another one of his useful but flawed statistical measures).
Needlessly to say, Butler didn't pan out and he was gone in little more than a year.
So again, take his work for what it's worth -- interesting, often enlightening, but hardly perfect. Just don't accuse him of "hating" or whatever else, because that's the furthest thing from what he's doing.

The Suns are the 11 best according to Holinger, WOW talk about a WORTHLESS Pole. I think I have finally found a pole more worthless than the BCS.
