Play Mario More-io!!!

Post#1 » by ACE_reppin_ATL » Fri Feb 27, 2009 5:28 pm

Why won't Woody play Mario West more? The other night (vs DEN) he played less than 7 minutes and grab 4 rebs, 1 steal, and 1 block and was ALL ENERGY like he bleeds Red Bull. It was so obvious that he plays with tons more energy and heart than anyone else that was on the floor (for both teams) at the time...Now he doesn't shoot jumpers well, but he drives to the paint with force, handles the ball very well, he contest any shot close to him, he chases loose balls, and plays very physical...Besides, does every one have to shoot...If Woody was a better coach like Doc, Phil, Sloan, or Pop - I guarantee Mario would play at least 10-12 mins per game...his energy and fire would have to rub off on teammates and THAT'S THE MAIN REASON WHY I LIKE THE IDEA OF A. IVERSON PLAYING FOR US!!! Guys like those leave it on the floor no matter how long they are on the floor...THAT'S HOW BASKETBALL IS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED!!!

I'd like to see a lineup of West, Joe, Evans, Josh, Horford on the floor at the end of quarters and halves...That's like our All-Hustle team lineup and Joe and Evans would also be out there to get open with West and Josh driving and kicking....

I dont think you can really put together an ALL HUSTLE team for the hawks right now.. If you could really find five guys that hustle all the time we would have 6-8 more wins probably....
I think Law Rio Evans Horford Zaza would be our all hustle team, but would you really want to see that lineup out there on the floor?

^ I'd like to see a Bibby/West/Marvin/Horford/Zaza line-up out there. That would be a nice hustle team in my opinion. You wouldn't think of Marvin as one, but with a line-up like this, he would have to be counted on in the offense to score, which would give him a boost.

I couldn't agree more. When Mario came in against Denver he got his hand on several loose balls. A guy like that can energize the entire team by making hustle plays. I think Woody should give him some minutes, especially when we need a boost of energy, and that has been quite often recently.

I agree too. The guy is an instant momentum changer when we are struggling. Rather than cramming him into the line-up though, I'd like to see us make a trade in the offseason to secure a big, realizing that a SG/SF could be included since West needs some playing time anyway.

I agree. The problem is finding him time to play. I don't see how we find him much time with a solid 3 guard rotation of Bibby/Johnson/Murray. Those guys all need to be on the floor a lot for us to compete.

I love Mario's energy, but he is such a negative on the offensive end that I understand the reluctance to give him PT. If he could develop a reliable 3 or a reliable long 2 (even if just from a certain spot) it would make all the difference in his PT. The defense would obviously help off him, if he could burn them some of the time he could get the PT to be a stopper type.

Mario should get some PT when we're struggling and looking lazy out there like we do so often. He attacks the glass like nobody else in the NBA. Great hands on defense. Terrible offensive player, but he can grab offensive rebounds, dunk, and draw fouls. With more PT he should improve.
