Who Starts At PF and Why?

Post#1 » by infinite11285 » Fri Feb 27, 2009 5:11 am

Alright people, I honestly feel Ben going down could be a blessing in disguise. There isn't ANYTHING that Hickson or AV can't do that Ben could. Hickson and AV are both tough, both block shots, both play good D, and both are worlds above Ben on D. Now that AV or JJ will start, teams can't guard us 5 on 4. At least JJ and AV bring another dimension to this team that Ben couldn't; offense. Thus why his minutes have been cut recently. Also when Ben was horrbile on D or the defensive end, he was useless. Usually I'd be pissed but I'm actually excited to see how JJ developes if he's given major minutes. Let's not forget that LeBron can play PF as well but who would we move to SF?

So to the point of this thread. Who should start at PF? LeBron, JJ, or AV and why? I'd prefer Hickson to start because AV is better coming off the bench but conventional wisdom tells me Mike Brown feels otherwise.

If Drew Gooden get's waived by Sactown, would you guys welcome him back? I would as long as he comes off the bench.....

If the world was perfect, I would start Hickson with LeBron and Z. LeBron and Hickson's athleticism would cause problems against many of the frontlines in the NBA. AV would continue to come off the bench, and Drew would get waived and sign with us. A Bron, Z, Drew, Hickson, and AV frontcourt rotation would do just fine in the playoffs. If Hickson doesn't work out we could insert Drew. I do not want AV to start at all. He brings so much energy and hustle off the bench......

In reality, Varejao will be starting.. Especially if we are on a tough road trip. Mike Brown doesn't trust rookies unless Hickson really shines like Gibson did, which I don't see happening.

JJ Hickson should start. Why? Well we need to minimize the impact Wallace's injury has. By moving Hickson to the starting lineup we keep our bench entirely in-tact. And who knows, maybe JJ produces a little bit more than Ben? If we start Andy then that upsets the chemistry the bench has.

Andy needs to come off the bench. If not we have no one to play cent except for wright. Let Anderson backup Z and let JJ Start and when he comes out put LeBron at the PF. Wally plays SF then. Its a smarter rotation leaving Wright out as long as possible. I like Hickson and I think we are in good position. Where as we will lose the paint intimidation with JJ in for Ben, all your getting is a possible offensive foul with AV, so Hickson will be fine. Also he IS a freak athlete. The pick a roll with Hickson that Lebron like to play could be sick. Plus maybe this will push along his development and be more playoff ready come April and May. And I want Joe Smith to be bought out first, but Gooden is doable.

I totally agree about the blessing in disguise comment. I like Hickson way better than Wallace. Brown is brutal at talent evaluation as was seen by how long he kept hanging on with Eric Snow. Snow was easily the worst starter in the NBA his last 2 seasons.

thanks for the insight. We should still be the top seed in the east regardless. I think we will miss ben more in the playoffs than in the reg season. I just hope Brown will let this team run more with JJ, to take advantage of the upgrade in athletecism over Ben. Obvoiusly we will lose some D and intangibles that go along with being a seasoned vet like Ben, but JJ needs the PT anyway. I would be fine with drew if he were bought out, or even better Joe Smith if that happen.

Varejao has a fro as well... Fact is we are still a great team even without Wallace. I believe we have a winning record whenever Big Ben is sitting out... Having a healthy Wallace makes us even greater.

Big Ben cuts off the fro, and breaks his leg. Maybe he should grow it back while he is off.
