Former Griz Stromile Swift lost his mother recently

Peace and blessings everyone,

Sorry if this has been posted already, but just wanted to drop in and let you guys know that former long time Griz Stromile Swift lost his mother recently. I just found out about it yesterday. The New York media I've been keeping up with as I've been following Swift with the Nets (the nypost, the nytimes, and the nydailynews, have all given this zero coverage, other than a mention last month that Swift was dealing with personal issues.

Fans who have followed the Griz in the past or for a long time may remember the time Jerry West and Hubie Brown made a special trip down to meet with Stromile and his mother in order to get him to buy in to playing a reserve role for Coach Brown. Never have I heard of something like that happening in pro sports (meeting with mom!) but it goes to show that Stromile was very close with his mom.

I'm a little curious though- ragtime- are you by any chance related to Swift?

No I'm not related to him. I'm caucasian.

saw that article and posted it on the "other" board earlier today.

I too lost my mother WAY too soon (isn't it always too soon??), and it changed my perspective on Stro a bit, especially when one considers the timespan during which his Mom was fighting with so many different health issues.

Everyone's hearts go out to the guy. Hopefully, he can get back on track and resurrect his career in time though.

HPT, I went and checked out your post. Why do you think it might need to be moved to the OT area?

Stromile has such a long history with the Griz it probably belongs in the team talk section. The only Vancouver Griz to play in the playoffs in Memphis, and I believe still holds the franchise record for blocks in a game.

well, the only reason I thought it might need to be moved was that it wasn't really about basketball....

Just mention that he's missed a lot of time this season because of his Mother, and that he's returned to the team but hasn't gotten back in the lineup yet, and it becomes more about basketball. :wink:
