I love the Boozer is a beneficiary bs. He was the top rated high school player in the entire nation as a senior (ESPN). He goes to Duke and they say he is riding the coattails of JWilliams and Dunleavy ... when he is far better than either of them. He goes to Cleveland and even his coach (Silas) tells him he can be nothing more than a rebounding specialist and garbage player. He goes to Utah and ... whatever. The WC coaches are always just joking around when they vote him to the All Star game, right?

First of all, the "still" rips at the start of this thread cracked me up

It doesn't matter how well he's playing, this free agency options are:

OKC
Detroit
Memphis
Utah

That leaves Utah and Detroit. If Utah is dumb enough to hand Boozer a max contract, Detroit will let them. And then take Millsap or Okur away from them unless they want to get $15+ million into the luxury tax.

It's not what he's worth in comparison to top players. It's what he's worth in terms of the economy. The days of 6 year, $120 million deals might be dead for now.

Exactly. If Chandler was almost traded for scraps, we should expect a very different summer for free agents.

What if Boozer doesn't opt out? I know he said he would, but if he can't get a big deal, he might stick one more year and hope the economy picks up. If that happens,
1) would Utah go over the luxury tax to match the offer if the Pistons offered Millsap a 5 year deal starting at $8mil?
2) would Utah trade Boozer cheaply to the Pistons (who have cap space and could send back much less $ in return), thus taking Millsap's biggest option away and allowing him to be signed by Utah?

I think one of these two scenarios are going to happen. I guess the other would be if Boozer does decide to opt out and the Pistons give him a long term deal, although it wouldn't be a MAX deal.

I'm not sure how this is going to play out, but I'd bet that Millsap or Boozer will be on the Pistons next year, and that's a still!
