Realisticly speaking, players and their agents evaluate offers from all teams, and we know for a fact both Boston and Cavs offered contracts (among other teams). Its possible he may prefer to play with Cavs (likely but not definite proposition), and many thing may happen till contract is signed. I dont see the point of going into who is better friends with whom, we will hardly know all details till they write their biographies

How do you explain trading for Gasol and Ariza last year DEEP if it just doesn't work like that? I'm not saying the Lakers are in play for Smith, but this reasoning about the triangle is not what leads me to believe that...

OK shackles I get the gist of what your saying, I didn't mean to make the Triangle out to be some unsolveable offense. But the thing is, post players such as Pau can adapt to it quickly because the offense has many varations on how it starts. Plus it helps to have a high b-ball IQ such as Pau also. As for Ariza again he got a lot of help from Kobe on the offense. But I'll let it be known, guys have struggled to grab the concepts of it also. Bottom line the IQ part of it helps.

Lets not get finicky, both Cavs and Boston approached and wanted to get him, regardless in what form it was done Celtics got poor mans Smith in Moore, but after Ben injury Cavs are dying to get Smith, I guess its one of the reasons why Smith openly started talking about buyout.

I have two ideas why LA could also bid for Smith - Bynum is out (probably will be back for playoffs, but still), and even if LA would just bench him as a reserve, it would prevent main opponents like Cavs and Cs getting important big back-up. Maybe there are more reasons, but Phil forgot to fill me in

Well here's the difference between last season and this season, last year we were pressed to get Pau just in case Drew didn't make it back. Mitch didn't have time to wait to see if he would, and once they botched his injury assessment they made the move.

This year they KNOW he's coming back, yet every time I read somebody's board they say "maybe he'll come back"...................he coming back we'll have a better read on it in the next few weeks. He's started his rehab and has no swelling and almost no pain in the knee. He's right on schedule with it.

Amen on that Harison, true about not rushing it that's why the Lakers put that 8-12 weeks just to make sure.

So no reason to call him a liar when you look straight to the sources mouth. He never said "I'd like to play in Boston," that was only speculation.

He's not a liar, he's just a true professional. He didn't want to leave OKC as an insurance policy for another team...but now that he has a chance to have a major role on the Cavs, he'd prefer to be bought out... but it's his agent pushing hard for one, Joe will play wherever he's getting paid to play.

The celtics didnt sign Mikki Moore because they didnt think Joe Smith was bought out. They signed Mikki Moore because they obviously knew even if Joe Smith was bought out. He wouldn't likely be signing with Boston. The only people suprised by this are the fans. I have no doubt the Celtics saw this coming a mile away.
