Official waived players thread

Post#1 » by MikeyMike » Sun Mar 1, 2009 2:09 am

Is this guy done? Apparently Houston released him.

I have always liked his game, wouldn't mind having him as a back-up guard.

However, I would still rather add a bigman like Joe Smith to shore up the front heading into the post-season.

He can't shoot Mikey, that's why he's struggled in the NBA. In college he was mostly a slasher but at this level guys can get on your first step quickly.

He can't shoot? He's been a great shooter for Houston ever since he came into the league.

He made a three pointer in like 50 (actually 37) straight games or something. He shot 36% (113-313) in his rookie season from three, followed by 44% (177-401), 35% and 36%.

You must be thinking the wrong guy. Now, he can't drive to the basket that's for sure. If Joe Smith doesn't get released, we should definitely take a look at him.

EDIT- He hit a three pointer in 37 straight games.

Get 'Em!!!!!

Sign him to a minimum deal for 2-3 years.

Pry Kidd away from Dallas.

Dump Farmar and Vujacic to OKC for Weaver and Sefolosha (Would OKC do it though? ... probably a long-shot).

NOTE: Head is better than Vujacic and can now be had for a fraction of Vujacic'c contract.

I say we cut Sun Yue for this guy and still keep another roster spot open for a big man if one becomes available. Luther Head can definitely ball and we should give him a look.

Apparently u have never seen a Houston Rocket game before. The ONLY thing he can do in the NBA is shoot. He can't do anything else.

Breaking down Head's game:

1. can't dribble or handle the rock.
2. Undersized SG at 6'3" and cannot play point.
3. Only strength is shooting the ball and he hasn't been doing that well of late.
4. I don't see how he is better than Sasha in any aspect.

Either way he's garbage it's a reason guys get cut, and from j-far's break down why would the Lakers want him.

I'd take Head over Vujacic. He shoots just as well and he handles the ball a lot better. I'm sure he plays better d too. But contracts and potential morale issues just make it not feasible. Head will land a spot somewhere though. He's an Eddie House/Jame Posey type value.

First of all Eddie House is not Posey type value. Those guys are two different levels in the NBA. Posey is a starter caliber player while Eddie House is a streaky shooter who can outright stink at times.

Secondly Sasha is a much safer ball handler and defender than Head. The only reason we're even talking about Head is due to Sasha's shooting slump and I'm pretty confident in Sasha getting over it than spend on Head who might not even crack the rotation this season.

rox fan friend tells me this:

1. he can't handle the ball
2. he generally can't shoot
3. he is too short
4. he is the butt of lots of penis jokes

I like Luther Head, but not with the Lakers. I think he'd be better off elsewhere.

I disagree with most of you all about this guy. THe comparisons to Eddie House are very accurate though except he's bigger. He is as good a shooter as Vujacic, a better defender of PGs than Vujacic, but a worse facilitator than Vujacic. Most important than all of that, if we sign him for 2 - 3 years to the minimum and dump Vujacic this offseason we can save oodles of money.

It's real simple budgetting ... you've got to cut corners and take advantage of money-saving, discount opportunities.

Here is a pretty accurate scouting report of Steve Kerr err Luther Head.

Overview: An undersized shooting guard who needs to improve his consistency and efficiency to take his game to the next level. Displays good quickness and speed. Doesn’t have great strength for a guard, which makes him a liability defensively against taller opponents. Could really stand to develop his point guard skills, but Houston already has plenty of players at that position. Has put up solid scoring numbers, but has seen his minutes decrease in 07/08. Didn’t have to play point guard at Illinois with Dee Brown and Deron Williams handling all of the minutes there.

Offense: A solid shooter who gets about half of his attempts from behind the arc. Perimeter jumper has been his staple since college. Hasn’t had much of a problem expanding his range to the NBA 3-point line. Great catch and shoot player. Average ball handler. Likes to take the ball to the rim since he doesn’t have the explosiveness to get separation in the midrange. Not great at running the pick and roll. Can turn the corner, but is usually forced to give up the ball. Not a great distributor. Won’t make bad passes or turn the ball open often, nor will he set up teammates. Doesn’t go to the line at a high rate, but shoots a very good percentage from the stripe. Won’t crash the offensive glass. Needs to work on his point guard skills. Has found himself as a shooter, but would be a better fit if he could see some minutes at the point.

Defense: A solid defender who shows a good work ethic to compliment his above average athleticism. Has a tough time when asked to guard taller perimeter players, which makes it difficult for him to play the 2-guard spot at times. Can’t contest their shots due to his lack of ideal size. Capable of defending the point guard spot better. Good lateral quickness, but isn’t always be able to stay in front of smaller guards. Shows consistent effort. Won’t take a lot of risks, and for that reason he won’t make many mistakes. A nice option who brings energy, but doesn’t have the physical traits to be a dynamic defender.

Drew Gooden might get bought out do you think he will be a good addition to this team?

He has a mid-range, he can rebound, but i dont know how good he is on defense

MARK MY WORD ...

Head will be an absolute STEAL for somebody !!!

If he can play in a system where he can guard PGs on defense and be allowed to play SG on offense with a tall facilitatior he will FLOURISH.

The Lakers have that system with Kobe, Odom, and potentially Kidd next year carrying the brunt of the offensive PG duties.

too bad that the deadline to get bought out and still be elligible for the playoffs is so close, I was really looking forward to a sticky thread called "THE OFFICIAL SO AND SO MIGHT GET BOUGHT OUT".

Rumor has it Cleveland and him have discussed a deal. Most likely he will sign with the cavs for rest of the regular season, too bad he most likely cant play in the playoffs but he will still help them to get a good regular season record.
