Mr. Can't-let-it-go

Post#1 » by dunkonu21 » Sun Mar 1, 2009 10:24 pm

The free agency period of the year we traded KG before the draft. I was being as most Wolves fans and had not yet lost my hope in the team. I don't know if I brought this up back then but I told my friends about it. I just was thinking, well we're not gonna make a splash in the free agency unless we find players who are undervalued. I thought who would be great players to sign.

Then I came to this realization. Jerry Stackhouse and Grant Hill were both free agents and we're considered "over the hill". Yet, their talent level was so high back in their primes, I find that many players can get rejuvenated in new situations. So what if the Wolves had signed BOTH Hill and Stackhouse along with Foye and Blount. That could have been a formidable team no? Assume that they'd both be healthy in the future. Sign both of them for the MLE or a little less, but show them that we're serious in this chase of a championship. In your wildest dreams could you see that team winning? And would you rather have tried that than to trade KG for Al Jefferson?

Foye/Jaric
Stackhouse/Hassell/Jaric
Hill/Brewer/Jaric
KG/Smith
Blount/Smith

That second unit has a big time scorer in Smith and some rediculous defense in Hassell-Jaric and Brew combo. Or we could have drafted Noah or Hawes as a back-up center? Or traded the number 7 pick for more vets?

If you want to add on to this team go ahead and throw out your ideas but keep the three-headed Stack-Hill-KG.

we would be a 5th-6th seed at the best. Maybe a second round appearance if the matchup was right.

Blount as our center would and will never get a team to the promise land as a starter.

I'm happy with our rebuilding plan.

I'm just surprised that's the best hypothetical you could come up with. Stackhouse and Hill, really?

Well if you remember, we were pretty backed up to a corner, but we had little to offer to improve out talent.

Hill and Stack combined for over 23 ppg in 07-08. What if they were the focal point of a team? They'd prolly doubt that! Then you'd have Foye's 13 ppg. KG's 20-10-5... AND McCants would have had KG kick his arse into shape and he'd be a great 6th man! ahh i think it sounds great!

I dunno i just think it'd be enough talent to win and be a contender if everything worked out.

I think best case that team would've been slightly better than the 1 and done playoff teams of yester year.

As diehard of a Wolves fan as I am........

...... I am extremely glad KG got traded, and got the chance to win his championship.....

Hopefully, KG will sign a one day contract at the end of his career, and retire a timberwolf.. probably wishful thinking..

I am 95% sure we wouldn't have won a championship here with KG. Too many mistakes over the years to build the sort of team we needed to surround KG with, with the bad decisions and financial obligations we set forth.

Well I think the only team that had a chance to win it all was the one with Spree and Cassel. I don't think that Hill and Stackhouse at that point of their careers could have helped the Wolves enough to be a contender. They probably would have made the Conference Semi-finals at best.

I think it would have depended on MN's medical crew - if you could somehow get phoenix's crew up here you might have a chance. I never expected Hill to play so many games again in his career, they've really worked a lot of miracles down there. Hill and KG would have been a pretty awesome combo.
