Interview here
Bottom line. Claims he's fine, but that's their is no room for him behind Bibby, Flip who's having a great year, and Acie who's a high draft pick. Sounds upbeat, but has no desire to throw in the towel (take a medical retirement).
I guess my discussing him leading up to the trade deadline in terms of contract paid by insurance was just hopeful thinking. I think an insurance company would question a claim with a newspaper interview like that floating about.

To risk sounding like a 15 year old - OMG, Sekou actually interviewed him.
IMHO, Speedy is as good as gone this summer. He's the perfect BYC-busting contract to pair with Childress is a S&T, or simply on his own as an expiring.

I don't really buy that he's healthy. If he showed he was 100% he would have surely seen minutes.

I'm just surprised no one in Atlanta has run him over yet.

Tony Delk? Brent Barry? An old regime, I know, but the precedent is there.
If they plan on trading him, they should play him some to get his value up.

Agreed. I hope we find a way to get rid of him though. Like it's been mentioned here, pack him with Law, J. Chill's rights + whoever for someone who can actually contribute. He still gets one of the best seats in the house every night, man.... I can't stand Speedinjury Claxton.
GO HAWKS.

The sad part is that he would fill a big role on the team. A top defensive PG who doesn't need a lot of shots would be a very useful player to have.

Re: Speedy's status
Well, the possibilities of pairing him with Childress and/or Law are multiple, but I'm still not sure the Hawks would want to take on long-term salary until the JJ issue is solved. Still, there's another option:
Trade him for another crappy veteran with an expiring contract. The possibilities are amazing:
Adam Morrison, Mike James, or Matt Harpring.
If you paired him with Randolph Morris, you get the exciting option of:
Luke Ridnour, Antonio Daniels, or Etan Thomas.

why would a team trade an expiring contract for a guy whose contract would take up room for 2010 and likely be unable to contribute much on the floor?

Speedy's contract expires in 2010.

Re: Speedy's status
I have had the honor of being in the arena a few times while Speedy was out there warming up.
If this guy is 100% I would say this is on a 200% scale
He looks nothing like the player he once was, and if he was even capable of being on the court in a NBA game there would have been a home for him. IMO we are stuck with him, maybe move him next year as an expiring but otherwise I think we will be in for a lot more sightings of Speedy in a suit.
