OT: Just flew in to Houston

Post#1 » by BBen » Mon Mar 2, 2009 6:17 pm

Hey guys!

Just wanted to stop in, say hi and introduce myself since I'll probably be posting here off and on for a while. I'm an orphaned Sonics fan who simply loves the game of basketball. I adopted the Blazers after my team was stolen but now I'm in Houston and hoping to go see a few Rockets games. So far I love your city!

Questions:
How is the Toyota Center and how hard is it to get tickets?
Does Fox Sports Southwest carry the Rockets? If not who does?
Any must see's in Houston?

Thanks for your responses!

Toyota Center is nice, and I believe its quite easy to get tickets.
Fox Sports Southwest does carry us.
And what are you into?

Love it while you can before the traffic piss you off. At least it's still 10x better than LA.

I don't get pissed off by traffic because I use the public transportation system.

BBen if you're looking for stuff to do, I think there's a backthread about Houston from some time back. Maybe nov-dec ish?

Welcome to town!

Public transportation in Texas suck. Can't speak much for Houston. I'm actually living in Austin now.

Ours is wonderful! We have a train, 3 buses, and if you call a taxi they're almost always there within 50 minutes. Oh, and carjacking. (best public transportation ever)

What the hell guys, this is Texas. We all ride horses and tractors. Durr.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

Welcome to Houston, I hope you enjoy the city and the Rockets.

Yes FSN carries us, but games will occasionally be showed on the channel formerly known as UPN...I'm not sure what the hell they call it now.

 Horse thieving, sorry.

(just remember it's still a hanging offense, unlike carjacking which I believe is only a felony unless you cross state lines)

Yeah, most games will be on FSN Houston (Comcast CH. 31), with the rest being on ESPN, TNT, or the other local station (My20, CH. 20 for regular TV (no cable), CH. 4 Comcast)

Welcome to my former home (I'm in Austin now).

But if you're having a New Year's party and want to get one drunk person 19 taxis will show up within 10 minutes and will stay parked outside until they get another call. Then by the time you need one they've all left. This goes on until about 2:30am. At which point nobody can speak clearly enough to tell the taxi people exactly where they are.

Oh the buses in Austin are great if you go to UT. I tried to hop on the E-Bus the summer after I graduated and the douche driving got all pissy because I didn't have my student ID. After 30 seconds of bitching at him he let me ride.

Welcome to town Ben. Whatever you do, don't settle in the heights.

Curious, what's wrong with settling in the heights? Other than one block being nice and the next block, not.

haha everyone hates on their public transport...try living in louisiana. Was in austin and now in shreveport and that $hit is like night and day. Bad public transport is way better than no public transport. If i ever had to use a bus here, i'd be afraid of getting jacked/raped. I'm male btw. LA (state) sucks and they should turn it into a prison and send all the felons here and build a big ass fence around the state. It already seems like that here already =(

Yo man, it is not that serious. I am from Alexandria and I enjoy myself everytime I go back to visit. Though trying to get public transportation is a waste of time. It's better to walk around (you might run into a crackhead or 2, but they just talk)

I'm sorry, but I ran from 5 to 20th for a training run, and I just wanted to kill someone. It was the most mindnumbingly boring thing ever. I wound up talking about body waxing with the girl I was running with(we were the two slowest in the 3:45 group).

Hah nice. I haven't been over there much, just seemed like Ribalding had said something along those lines, too. Couldn't remember why though. On the bright side it could have been crocheting.
