Stromile Swift

Post#1 » by Preludepunk27 » Mon Mar 2, 2009 3:49 pm

Just thought you guys should know. A guy on our board (Nets) knows his agent and told him that we waived Stro and he will sign with the Suns when he clears waivers. I haven't seen any articles about it, I just thought you guys would be interested.

I think Tastic will provide a link to the FA thread and then lock this one.

Yeah I saw Stro being discussed there, but figured a new thread would be able to focus on the guy you actually apparently signed. My bad though if that's not how you guys work it here.

p.s. Off topic, but does anyone know anybody that goes to law school at ASU? I'm applying there next year and it's a top 5 choice of mine.

If you want a career in the West then ASU Law is pretty good, Regionally it is acclaimed but not so much Nationally. However, its a pretty nice place to spend a few years for school. I am actually an MBA student at ASU.

Overall, its a pretty good second tier choice for Law school.

I would need a link before I believe anything. Knowing our FO we are going to let the 3 free agents go to contenders while we resign Sims for the rest of the year and not play him.

Yeah I love Arizona and looking to head out there or to California so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Thanks though!

Back on topic, I've been trying to dig up articles too. When the Nets originally traded for Stro, this kid knew like almost a week before it actually happened because he knows Stro's agent. Regardless, I'm gonna keep on digging.

Kerr already said he would like to sign a FA this season.

Swift would be a great addition, however; we need to see to believe round here. So if you can dig up anything it would be great.

OK will reopen this, as have had this confirmed by a reliable source...

I like the pickup...Low risk, semi decent return...

Hope he plays backup C, with Lou still getting his minutes, and Dudley sticking as the backup SF

I think he will end up starting PF, but will spend time at b/u C as well.

Woulda prefered Gooden, but Drew prolly has other teams in his mind.
Still a nice pickup.

Hope Swift sticks around, we could def use an extra bigman for next year as well.

Suns Looking To Sign Stromile Swift

by Paul Coro - Mar. 2, 2009 11:58 AM
The Arizona Republic

It sounds like the Suns could have their replacement power forward soon.

Phoenix has targeted Stromile Swift, a 6-foot-10 power forward and nine-year NBA veteran, after New Jersey bought out his contract Sunday after he played in only six games this season. He was away for the Nets for six weeks to tend to his mother, who passed away Jan. 27 after a decade-long bout with kidney disease.

Swift, 29, returned to the team two weeks ago and was close to being activated when the Nets agreed to buy Swift out so he could seek a team that could give him playing time. Swift never lived up to his billing as the 2000 draft's No. 2 pick but is an athletic player who could fill some of the role vacated by Amare Stoudemire, who is likely out for the remainder of the regular season with a detached retina.

Swift has averaged 8.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks with 20.0 minutes per game in his career, almost all of which was spent with the Grizzlies.

The Suns roster is currently one below the NBA 13-man minimum. Phoenix has to sign another player in the next week.

I'm not getting too carried away...Personally I like Lou more because he goes hard for the Suns non-stop and would be the first to hit the floor for a loose ball, I don't see Stro doing that..

I see, well you don't see Lou slammin' it down on a fast break like Stro-Swift can. I'd rather have the offense than the defense when we're talkin about SSOL now known as SSOS.

That makes Lou better coming off the bench, with that energy and hustle, I think Stro's size will help us with size against the bigger teams.......

Aaah, you do - he's played really well this year and dropped 20 and 10 the other night, with a few NICE dunks...

Remains to be seen how much he has left in the tank

Return to Phoenix Suns
