Could Adonal Foyle help us?

Post#1 » by ACE_reppin_ATL » Tue Mar 3, 2009 2:43 pm

Adonal Foyle - is a 6'10 vet and is a very strong, tough shotblocker/rebounder....He'd be very cheap and should be able to get some minutes off our bench...The most minutes he's played this year was 13 mins vs HOU where put up 4pts, 7 rebs, and 3 blks....That's the kind of active rebounding big we need off the bench along with Zaza's active offensive rebounding and scoring inside....

I think that move would be minor but could really turn out to be BIG for us at this point when you think about it....Because, you gotta have defense inside when you get into the playoffs and if we had a bench rotation of tough, active rebounders like Foyle and Zaza with scoring from Flip and Mo, I'd feel pretty good about playing any team in the East in the playoffs...

WILL THE HAWKS EVEN LOOK AT PICKING HIM UP?

I mean why not? there are guys that the Hawks could face he could help with. He is a putrid offensive player but considering there is a lot of dead weight on the Hawks roster I really don't see the downside.

I read he's was working as more of an assistant coach than player in Orlando this year until they needed his contract in a trade. While he can't go back to Orlando and play in the playoffs, I wonder if going to another team in the East would hurt his plans for the future. Then again it has been said that we need a better big man coach.

Even if Atlanta did approach him or any other free agent it would probably not make a news story except in the phrase "and other teams expressed interest in Foyle" following one of the higher profile teams.

He's light years better than Solo and Morris, so it would be great to add him to the mix. An interior rotation of Josh, Al, Zaza, and Foyle would be better than what we have now. Of course, I would be SHOCKED if the Atlanta Clown Group added any more salary to this team.

Evildallas, it seems he was waived on March 1st (Link), so he can play in the playoffs (or did I miss something ? ).

Now, that's right that I don't see the owners wanting to add some money, but it's only 1M$.
I don't know if we can get him now, and not wait he clears waivers and agree to sign here.
It's seems we have part of MLE (1.585M since Flip and Mo used 4M) and BAE (1.9M) left, but as these exceptions start to reduce since January 10th, the amount can be lower than his salary ($1,262,275). I don't have the exact vaue, but I think that the 1.9M of the BAE, even reduced, can be enough to get him.

I wouldnt mind the pickup, but the way zaza is coming on we are really down to a three man rotation no matter what. He would be good for a couple minutes or a minute at the end of quarters. I am so glad zaza is picking up his game for the stretch and i love seeing him in there in the fourth quarter because it seems like he just wants it more than Josh right now.

This is going to force Josh to wake up and push himself a little. Definitely a good coaching strategy by Woody and it should pay off. He has sent a clear message to Josh that if he doesnt pick it up he will lose his minutes.

Why in the hell are we not looking to sign Joe Smith asap! This is exactly the type of big we need that can come off the bench and provide some scoring and rebounding. Is Sund a complete idiot! Why in the world are we not signing another veteran big at this point? I just don't get when we have bums like Gardner, West, and Hunter taking up roster spots? This team is so stupid.

We could cut the 3, and sign 3 of Gooden, Smith, Swift, Head,... ad still be under the tax threshold...
and we won't get anyone :-?

He could be on our playoff roster or other teams, but I'm unsure about Orlando because he has a 30-day block on resigning with them because they traded him. Perhaps he'd still be eligible for the playoffs because he was waived by March 1st, but wouldn't really contribute anything down the stretch to the Magic as he'd miss all of March. To be honest the rules are confusing on some of this.

gutz- Joe smith isn't going to sign with the Hawks over the Cavs. Its ridiculous to think thats Sund's fault.

It's also ridiculous to think that one of these guys wouldn't come and that cutting Gardner or Morris would be a small price to pay to upgrade the team.

A tight rotation is nice, but what about injuries or nights when we have starters in early foul trouble.

There should be a responsibility to upgrade the team whenever it's clearly possible; as in now.

The BASG should do everything under the luxury tax to help this competitive team go that much farther. It should go without saying.

From what I understand, it's 30 days after the trade, so he's not allowed to go back to ORL before Feb 19th + 30 days. And as he was waived on March 1st, he can play in the playoffs.
But that's right he will miss a big part or March.
