OT-Does IU stink or what!

Post#1 » by basketballwacko2 » Tue Mar 3, 2009 11:35 pm

Feel free to lock this if you want but, I'm and IU grad and in my life I've never seen the Hoosiers like this. I'm holding out all hope that Crean can get this basketball program back at least to respectable. :curse:

I believe that the reason for all this is the way the School fired Bob Knight and then turned around and fired Davis without giving him a real chance. then they bring in a cheater like Sampson and howdiado, look what we have now. this is what IU gets for what they did to Knight and Davis. Karma baby.

Davis had 6 seasons at IU. How many was he supposed to be given? That's an eternity in college coaching tenures.

Seriously. Once again, Scoot reads my mind and then posts accordingly.

Oh it was 6 seasons. He was treated fine. He didn't win enough, and he whined and complained way too much for anyone's liking. He isn't doing a whole lot at UAB either.

The Knight situation is a slippery slope. He acted out of line way too many times, but then again, he is a legend. I think the real mistake was hiring Kelvin Sampson. His bull is what has the program in the seventh circle of hell right now. We will fight out of it, and I am actually proud of the effort the guys put forth.

Well as far as knight is concerned his grad rate speaks for itself and without a single NCAA violation he won 3 NCAA Titles and that coulda been 5 with a break or two. How many NBA superstars came thru his program? 1 and maybe 3 or 4 other guys that did ok. Bob Knight was Indiana basketball without him we'd be like Purdue.

Davis wasn't that great. Knight was awesome. If Knight still coached at IU I would've gone there and played. Instead I choose not to play at all. And by choose not to play I obviously mean I am not good at all, but IU had next to no talent this year, and I think Crean will turn it around, but he needs a couple years.

I know this is borderline blasphemy to say, but Knight was on the downswing anyway. We had a string of teams that flamed out late in the season, and you get the sense that his antics were taking a greater toll on the players than it had in the past. With the way the college game has changed, the prized recruits don't want to play for a disciplinarian like Knight.

A lot of those IU teams seem kind of like Butler this year. And by that I mean white guys that can hit 3s. I saw Coverdale in Broad Ripple once, around the time he would have just graduated. He was in the backseat of a car hammmmered and I was driving my car. My sister went to Purdue, so she put up a sticker on the back windshield. He flicked me off and told me to go F myself. I didn't care and thought it was hilarious. The weird thing is I really liked IU a lot more than Purdue. AJJJJJ MOYEEEE!

I'm an IU grad too. My first year in Bloomington was when they fired Knight. I was the only happy camper then. Knights style of basketball was effective, but boring as hell. I've been an IU fan since I was a kid and this is the first year I can recall where IU was down right awful.

I've seen a lot of games. I don't remember the year, but I recall watching a game with Damon Bailey and IU lost by 50. They scrapped and played hard, but were over matched, but they still have a pretty good team, they just couldn't get shots to fall. This year's team has a load of players I don't know and this is the first year I haven't really paid any attention to IU basketball. I do hear that we have 2 really good recruits next year.

As for Davis, yeah, he wasn't very good. Is Davis even coaching anywhere? I haven't heard his name in a while. Kelvin Sampson, I was irate that they hired a cheater in the first place. He's a good coach, but a cheater and IU got what they deserve. I think in the long run, Crean will do a fine job. Just has to get past the first few years of **** that Sampson left for him to deal with.

The mistake IU made was hiring Sampson after he had problems with recruiting violations at Oklahoma. That should have sent red flags to Greenspan.

They are on the right track now, however, with Greenspan out and Crean as the head coach.

Crean is a master recruiter (top 5 class coming in next year), and he really knows how to get his guys motivated. It's hard this year with only 2 guys back (one of whom was walk on last year, and Taber, who didn't play last year either). Everyone knew it would be bad, but they will we back on track in two years.

I'm sorry (wait no I'm not) but Bob Knight was just WAY out of line too many times. I'm guessing you are a Knight worshipper. For all the things he did 3 championships wasn't enough. I'm not saying he wasn't a good coach, but he was also an a$$. I actually like him more now on tv.

btw, you couldn't possibly have expected IU to do well this season with pretty much 90% of the team being walk-ons. IU will be better next year with their incoming freshman class, but they won't be fully healed for a couple more years. Unless they become the new "baby boilers."

Also, why is it that so many people feel like they can only root for IU, or only root for Purdue? I am an Indiana basketball fan, and by that I mean the ENTIRE state and I can still call myself a true fan. I love basketball and there's no reason to bash another team from your home state, specially when your "favorite" team is not playing well. I know when the tournament comes around I will be cheering for ALL of the Indiana teams to do well. And once they are eliminated I will cheer for the entire Big Ten. Maybe I'm alone on this, I don't know. I guess I am just a TRUE Indiana basketball lover.

Sorry, I love Indiana basketball just as much as you, but I'm currently an IU student, and I HATE Purdue.

I'm just saying, you can have your favorites when they are playing each other but why not cheer for all indiana schools when they're playing their other games. Just my opinion, which I know a LOT of people won't share.

Most IU fans are not at all surprised by what is going on with this years team... Personally I am ok with it, knowing that there was a complete tear down of the program... I mean when you best returning player is Kyle Taber, then you are going to have problems... With all that transpired last year, especially at the end of the year, It is what was best for the program, regardless of how bad we are this year... Crean is already using IU's history as a recruiting tool, and has the #8 ranked class next year, according to ESPN... Expect next year, a huge improvement, as well as the following year... By then, we will be in the running for the Big 10 title every year...

Sure, and MOST IU fans do, we cheer for Butler, Notre Dame, IUPUI, Valpo, and the other schools, just NOT Purdue... I mean that is our arch enemy as far as a rivalry... Do you think that Duke fans or North Carolina fans root for each other when they are not playing each other?? I would say that they do, but only are rooting for them to lose...

Couldn't have said it better... you just don't cheer for your hated rivals. That's it and that's all.

In college football, it's all different. You have to hope the people you've played throughout the season dominate, or else you are not going to get a good ranking. Another reason to hate the BCS.
