The idea was to pair Joe with a guard who could defend the point but play like a SG on offense. That's pretty much what we're doing with Joe and Bibby, at times, now. Consider if we could find someone like Eric Gordon (with his looooong arms and good outside shot) to pair up with Joe; would that arrangement look so bad? Defensively and offensively, we'd kick rear end.

Thing is, you're right about the "disaster" part, but it was Joe who caused it by crying about playing the point.

Dude - do you remember the last time the genius Billy Knight tried to make Joe a point guard? It was a complete disaster. There's no way in hell we'll ever play Joe at point again.

I remember Joe even agreeing to play nearly every position on the court. He didn't exactly speak up for himself during the press conference and basically agreed with Billy's play. I remember thinking at the time "That's never going to work" and yet Billy's plan was once again a complete failure.

We're set at the point, the 2, and the 3 - the only question is what to do in the interior. Al is a lock for the next decade, but who is the type of player we want to match up with him down low? We could trade Josh - but we'll inevitably get 70 cents on the dollar for him. We could continue to hope that he develops and that Horford's example wears off on him, but that doesn't seem too likely. I'm stumped...

Maybe we could sign and trade Bibby and Josh for a talented 7 footer, and hope a combo of Acie/Flip can handle the point?

I feel we can get some solid value for Josh Smith if he starts performing at the level we know he can. He's going to play at a high level (knock on wood) during the playoffs, so it should help his trade value, but Sund needs to seek out any moves that helps us become a better team. I'm just sick with the way Josh conducts himself at times and I feel he's just trying to get Woodson fired at times. I might be wrong, but his play has been down all season long, and the last time I created a thread about it the overall opinion was that it's due to his injury. Now, it's time to re look at it and I feel it's just Josh to blame, and not as much the injury.

HMFFL, when Joe's going for double-digit assist #s and Bibby's bombing from deep, letting Joe run the offense, you still think the idea was a "complete failure?"

I don't mind Joe taking the ball up the court a handful of times during the game, but if it's full-time, it's not going to work, and it would be a complete failure. I'd respect Joe more if he would bring the ball up and drive inside to get to the foul. I don't exactly call dishing the ball to Bibby for the three once he crosses half court calling plays. To me Joe just instantly looks for the open man when he's bringing the ball up the court and doesn't try to create.

I like last season when Josh Childress brought the ball up, because not only would he try to create, but he would also drive inside, and as skinny as he was he seemed to be fearless.

On another note, I want Joe to score, drive inside, and stop looking to pass all the time. Especially passing up game winners. He completely surprised Flip during the final seconds against Denver.
