Bears not interested in Simms: EDIT -SIGNS WITH DENVER

Post#1 » by emperorjones » Wed Mar 4, 2009 1:56 am

By Vaughn McClure

Ex-Bears quarterback Rex Grossman was on the Jim Rome radio show and told Rome he plans to visit the Bengals later this week. He would reunite with another Bears' first-round pick in running back Cedric Benson.

For all the criticism Grossman absorbed in Chicago, a change of scenery might be what he needs to save his career. Teams still value his deep ball even if his decision-making skills remain a mystery.

There also was a report from a Tampa television station that Grossman was visiting the Bucs on Tuesday. Our friends in St. Petersburg tells us the report was inaccurate.

Speaking of the Bucs, ex-Tampa Bay quarterback Chris Simms hasn't heard from the Bears and doesn't expect to. Simms could re-sign with the Titans. He is attracting interest from the Broncos and Lions, according to reports.

Hoo boy. Looks like it's Hanie or Basanez backing up Orton unless we go QB in the draft.

Teams that are "close" have veteran QBs that have been there. I'll hold out hope that we can get Garcia in for a visit but the problem with that is that he'd easily beat out Orton if given an equal number of snaps and Angelo has an aversion to competition. Leftwich anyone ?

Angelo must not only like Orton quite a bit, but one of Hanie or Basanez as well. Hopefully he's right.

Even if he's in love with Orton, you still have to protect your team with some insurance. Has either Hanie or Basanez taken an NFL snap? I really doubt Angelo is going to start the season with these 3 as our only options.

Looks like we're drafting a QB in this draft. If Stafford/Sanchez falls and all we have is Orton/Hanie/that guy from Northwestern it would be a hard pass.

Well Angelo's been right about our other 60 QB's during his tenure. This should be no different.

Report: Busy Broncos ink Chris Simms

Simms

As the Denver Broncos try to repair their relationship with starting quarterback Jay Cutler, the team has filled its hole at backup quarterback.

The Tennessean is reporting that the Broncos have signed Chris Simms to a two-year contract. Simms will back up Cutler, who Denver will meet with in the coming days in an attempt to smooth things over after word leaked that the Broncos were considering trading him.

Simms will replace free agent Patrick Ramsey as Denver's backup signal-caller. New Denver coach Josh McDaniels opted against re-signing Ramsey.

The signing of Simms continues Denver's free-agency frenzy. The team has agreed to terms with 13 free agents, four of whom were signed Wednesday.
