Best Euroleague team
Who is it?
And, does anyone think they would be competitive in the NBA?

If I had to pick just one team for the best I would go with Panathinaikos. I think they could maybe win 35-40 games in the eastern conference.

Panathinaikos has strong guards but doesn't have the strength in the frontcourt.
Barcelona looks like the best Euroleague team this year, I also like Tau Ceramica, with Rakocevic aand Splitter you can't count them out, they're very thin though... These teams lack the size to be competitive against NBA teams every night. And not just in the C and PF positions but maybe most trouble would come from 6-7 guards and 6-9 perimeter forwards that almost every NBA team has.
CSKA Moscow, a bit weaker this year, but to my eye their teams the last 3 years could have been playoff teams in the East. They had enough size in every postion, enough scoring and great defense and coaching.

I'd say Panathinaikosis the ebst European team at the moment, closely followed by CSKA Moscow.
But comparing them to NBA team and predicting their performance in the NBA itself is difficult.
Most European teams have a 2 American players limit, playing with just 2 Americans in the NBA would be difficult, imagine an NBA team playing in the Euroleague with just 2 American players.
Anyway, if Panathinaikos signed 1-2 quality NBA big guys they could be competitive.

LOL what? Most European domestic leagues have a limit on US players eligible to play for each club. Usually 2 non-Europeans (hence max 2 Americans).
Look at these Euroleague clubs in the Top16.
Olympiacos, Cibona, Real Madrid, Unicaja 3 Americans.
Panathinaikos, CSKA, Fenerbahce Ulker, TAU 2 Americans.
Barcelona 1 American, 1 non-European
Partizan 1 non-European player.

LOL thats some hugh BS, there is no limit in most countries.
If there is a limit there is a limit on foreigners for example Russia there must always be 2 Russian born players on court on any given time.
There are no limits to US born players specifically on any team you mentioned, sure they don't have more then 2 but thats because they choose not to not because they have too lol.
Please tell me which leagues have limits to US born players?
GTFO and cut the crap lol.

First of all, why do you feel the need to insult people?
Look what I wrote before. I wrote non-European players (hence foreigners). Since most of them are Americans, it is like there is a limit on the number of American players' in each club.
The best European leagues have such limits. ACB and Greek A1 have max 2 non-EU. Italy 3. Lithuania 2.
As for Russia, each team ha the right to have 5 non-Russians (Europeans and non-Europeans) who can not play for the Russian NT.

Re: Best Euroleague team
Hard to tell, there are lots of teams pretty close. I'd still go with CSKA. Panathinaikos and Barça are stacked... maybe too much. Tau has been the most impressive this season, IMO, but they are over-reliant on two players, Rakocevic and Splitter. I believe one of these four teams will win the EL, hopefully TAU. Plenty of room to surprises though.
Every single one of them would be lottery bound in the NBA. I'd guess 15 wins as the best case scenario. These teams are built to play FIBA basketball. Anyway, a fully healthy (and somewhat rejuvenated) CSKA would be a tough matchup for some bottom NBA teams.

Exactly. But I think in Italy you can have 5 Americans.

I believe in Greece there is a specific limit that only 2 Americans can be on a roster.

Re: Best Euroleague team
However, there is no such limit in the Euroleague. That's why Olympiacos has 3 US players under contract (Childress, Pargo and Greer).
Anyway, i believe that CSKA is still the best Euro team and most likely would repeat this year. Panathinaikos has an impressive roster, maybe better than CSKA, but doesn't close games as well as they did two years ago. They had a number of away games both in Euroleague and A1 league this year that they played really piss poor.

The limit in Euroleague was abandoned back in 1998.

Re: Best Euroleague team
Just because there is no limit in Euroleague, it does not mean the national limits don't have a huge impact. Teams don't sign some big player to a huge contract to play 10-15 games in a year. To act like those limits are not a factor seems really weird to me.
Of course if rich clubs like PAO or Olympiacos had no limits on who they could sign (for example were in the NBA) then they would sign some. So the topic is how would Euro clubs as they are now do in the NBA and that is understood, but the point being made about if they were in the NBA they could sign more players is a valid one also.
