return2glory wrote:Smith to the Cavs was a done deal as soon as Smith asked for a buy out. That was some bull **** because when we wanted him, he was talking about how happy he was with the Thunder. Smith never wanted to come to Boston, he was waiting for the Vacs to show interest. Soon as Ben Wallce got hurt, I had a feeling Joe was heading to Cleveland.

This now makes the Cavs the favorites IMO. But anything can happen in the playoffs.

If the Cavs are the favorites which I don't believe they are, it's because of M. Williams not Joe Smith. I still believe Boston is the favorite, Cleveland has proven nothing because playoff basketball is different. Cleveland has to prove they can perform with very high expectations like the Celtics had last season. Until they do so, Boston is the favorite. IMO.

hopefully the door is now open for Bill Walker and GIddens to get some minutes to see what they can do. Marbury can't guard small forwards so doc needs to end that experiment. we are definitely a small team right now even with Moore. OUr biggest guys are Moore and perkins so until garnett gets back we are going to be undersized. Some day I'd like to hear the truth about Joe SMith going to Cleveland because the whole thing is fishy to me. as one of the posters said he was going there all along so don't insult my intelligence by saying he wanted to play for the celtics. If he really wanted to play for the celtics his agent would have told Danny that was the case and Danny could have rolled the dice. I think Smith was just trying to keep his future options open by saying he wanted to play for the C's; all along it was the $$ that were driving him. any how, like everyone else I'm glad this is over. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since Garnett went out. If he stays out one more week he would return next Friday ( the 13th) against Memphis. If it were me I'd wait until the milwaukee game on the 15th. Given our recent streak of injuries Friday the 13th just sounds unlucky. As for Fatoine I loved him when he was here but that ship has sailed. I seriously doubt that he is in basketball shape. the fact that danny didn't call him up before the season started or bring him to training camp should tell you everything you need to know about his prospects of ever playing for us again

How can you guys be complaining about tampering? That's some hypocritical stuff right there.

News flash: Not everybody is dying to play in Boston. Smith has ties to this franchise and every player on the roster (even Mo Williams).

did Joe Smith ever explicitly say he wants to play in Boston?

I know that he said he would like to play in Cleveland when he played with the Thunder. OKC fans gave him a lot of flack for that.

However, the Celtics -- the team that Smith most wanted to play for this season -- have dropped out of the bidding after signing veteran big man Mikki Moore last week

yea cavs can play in the playoffs, bron single handidly carried the team to the finals 2 years ago and last year we came within an inch of eliminating you. i think some of you guys forget that that game 7 last year was a 1 point game with less then 1:30 to go.

That didn't answer his question, Joe Smith never said he wanted to play for Boston.

That's about the best you're gonna get when a player is signed to another team...
Were there quotes of him saying he wanted to get bought out and go to Cleveland while he was still in OKC? exactly.

He said it. Whether you believe it or not, he did. I'd pull up the link, but it was said around the time the Cavs played in OKC in December and the archived Plain Dealer articles are not free.

He took a lot of flack for it from OKC fans. Brian Windhorst mentioned it in his weekly chat 1 or 2 weeks ago.

I remember he said he would be open to returning to Cleveland. Never said it was his first choice. He later made similar comments about Boston right after the trade was rescinded. Although he never went on record about what his top choice was, every rumor consistently said it was Boston.

I remember someone on here misquoted the first article and interpreted it to say that Cleveland was his #1 choice. It seems like that misinterpretation has really taken a life of its own and lived on here (which really justifies the criticism the original misquotation got IMO).

And guess what? We'll never know. Unless money really wound up being a factor, it sure looks like all the original quotes and rumors were correct - he was open to joining Cleveland as his 2nd choice after his 1st choice, Boston, signed Mikki Moore and was no longer interested in him.
