1) Tell me I'm speaking out of my "blow hole" again and I'm going to write you up; I'm another poster, and what's more, a global mod, so treat me with respect.

2) The mods on the Toronto forum deal with an extremely rabid fan base that causes problems; it has become their policy to lock things down in order to control sensitive topics.

You are ignorant. I get a kick out of all these people that claim they know how the Toronto board goes lol. Bottom line is this has nothing to do with unruly posters. This has everything to do with mods abusing their powers.

I am not ignorant, I follow the Toronto board regularly. The relationship to unruly posters is that the board is volatile and if the mods don't crack down, they have to see repetitive threads and moronic nonsense from posters, such as yourself, who don't have the respect to comport themselves with dignity.

You can quote Thomas Jefferson all you want but his quote applies to a democracy; the rights and privileges you enjoy on these boards are not sacrosanct rights presented to all men, women and children, they are a boon gifted to you on the sufferance of those who run the forums.

You are more than welcome to journey elsewhere in your search for a community in which to discuss basketball; we're happy with the way we run things, and it works.

If you don't like it, well, don't let the door hit you on the way out, mon ami, because we're not stopping you.

Lol..wait to play the I'm a global mod card. And I won't tell you take it out your b.h. then. I won't even call you a narc lol. I wouldn't want to hurt your feelings anyhow.

Yea I knew you'd go with this is not a democracy play. That was predictable. I'm aware of the distinction between a private enterprise and a democracy. But if you stifle people's right to express themselves they're going to go elsewhere and that was implied. Because people don't go on boards to put up with moderators that think their some big shizzle because they have an ounce of power.

Aside from that, my apologies on calling you ignorant. I know longer necessarily subscribe to that belief regarding your knowledge of the Raptors board.

Ok I missed an active shaq/bosh thread. I just saw a handful locked really fast and when I asked the mod he went all oscar meyer and said he didn't care. He could have redirected me, but apparently it only takes a sip of authority to get his tree high.

They locked your thread cuz there were 2 or 3 threads about the topic on the main page. Every forum mod does this, not just on the raps board.

My b.s. detector is going off. They locked it because they can't stand their boy getting scrutinized, even vicariously through a little thing called facts.

As a Raptor fan, I can tell that is not the case. They will lock multiple threads on the same subject or threads just made to inflame things. You are definitely allowed to criticize the team. There are tons of threads about exactly that: criticizing the coach, the team, the direction, a player. No team probably scrutinizes their players more than Raptor fans.

We even made it a habit to rip Sam Mitchell and his playbook.

So let them criticize. There's no need to be locking the thread just because fans get critical. That's half of all posts in general. It's bad practice.

But even if it is arguably a good thing, the mods don't need to be rude when they could just as easily be nice about it. For instance in my case he just said he did not care when he could have just as easily said there was a thread on it already. And if he wanted to be just a little nicer, he could have put the link. But I'd settle for a simple heads up rather than giving me an unprovoked "I don't care"

But I dont think redundancy is a big deal as it is. Let people follow the trains of thoughts and start new tangents. It's not like people go through 500 pages on just one thread anyhow.

The reality is that they don't want Bosh/Shaq being the talk of the forum and that is why it's done. Blaming it on the posters is just a sham. I guarantee you they kick out vulgar speech or suspend people for inciteful speech as it is. Locking threads has nothing to do with that.

I'm not sure what part of "they don't allow duplicate threads" you don't understand. If you want to post something, it simple: find the the Bosh vs Shaq or whatever they called it and post there. As long as you're being somewhat civil you should be fine.

I made my argument for allowing duplicate threads. It's not a matter of not understanding. But anyhow, even if I'm against that; it's not the end of the world, it's just weak, like the mods that run the board. I'm done with it though.

If you wanted to have a legitimate discussion, you wouldn't have been offensive in your response. If you wanted me to take you seriously, you would have approached me in a respectful manner. I don't know you, I'm not your friend, you haven't earned the right to talk to me in anything but a formal, respectful manner if you want me to take you seriously. Remember that. Basic etiquette is important, even on the internet.

Yea I knew you'd go with this is not a democracy play. That was predictable. I'm aware of the distinction between a private enterprise and a democracy. You're right, they don't go to boards where the moderators are on a power trip, because that's unpleasant. But when there are duplicate threads and they are explicitly trying to limit the discussion to specific threads, then the duplicates get locked. If they feel the need to lock a thread, then they have the right to do so because they are the moderators of the forum.

If you feel you have a complaint and you want to express said complaint, then you do it through appropriate channels so that the globals, or even the commissioners if you feel it necessary, can consider your complaint. You don't act the way you did here.

Aside from that, my apologies on calling you ignorant. I know longer necessarily subscribe to that belief regarding your knowledge of the Raptors board.

Man, I live in Mississauga, I know all about the Raptors and I've been posting on the RealGM forums since 2003. You don't think I've been over onto my hometeam's board from time to time? ;)

You're right, it's highly probable that the Raps mod that talked to you could have been more polite; they get testy. I would venture that he heard the same thing from a lot of people, but it doesn't excuse it if he was rude to you. If you like, forward me the response in a PM with the mod's name and the quoted text and I'll review it for you.

Isn't it hilarious how up-in-arms Shaq has gotten some of these children?

haha yes also funny is how the OP got waived since the time he started this thread. Mods' business is mods' business so I'm not asking any questions but I saw he didn't post any new threads over on TOR since this one so I feel like "the straw that broke the camel's back" probably came via some interesting PM conversations after his last post here...
