Can Moore or Powe play some small forward?
Doc doesn't have a clue how to substitute with a team that isn't perfect. Maybe we should give one of these guys some backup small forward minutes. Its better then seeing Marbury and House play this position.

Doc Rivers has to start using Bill Walker at SF. If Boston plays Cleveland in the playoffs he is the only one on the roster that could play LeBron 6-8 minutes while Pierce is resting. TA is too small and may not even return. Doc Rivers should be getting Bill Walker ready for the playoffs in my opinion.

there is no way powe or moore could play at sf. maybe kg could do it but i think that is a stretch.

Both of them can't play SF. But I've been thinking a while now if we could use Moore's length and athleticsm to guard opponent's tall SF (Turkoglu/Lewis, Prince, etc) and go big, until KG return. Thoughts?

Neither can. They simply do not have the footspeed or skill set to fill that spot. Neither does Scal. The only guy on the roster, outside the starting lineup, who does is Bill Walker.

Moore should play SF.
He certainly doesn't use his height at all with blocks and has no ability to rebound... at least at SF his thin frame might not get exposed as much.

Haha. Funny stuff.
No, Moore nor Powe can play SF. They don't have the lateral quickness to play against wing players. Walker should play there. Giddens should also play some SF. Giddens may be undersized at 6'5 for that position, but he has long arms and his a great athlete.

Will TA be back? He might not be a fan favorite but he is underrated and Doc will at least PLAY HIM at SF. Which is more then we can say for Giddens and Walker..

Doesn't a SF have to be able to knock down jumpshots? How would this work for Powe? And what about the defensive end? Powe's feet are too slow and to defend the 3. Moore can knock down some shots, but no way he's defending the position.
Like GuyClinch, I'll be glad when TA returns.

Re: Can Moore or Powe play some small forward?
There is very little difference in size between TA and Bill Walker 1.5-2" 5 maybe 10 pounds. Neither are the answer against Lebron, for more than spot mins he is just going to back these guys down.
Leon Powe has a shot. He does a very good job of positioning himself on defense and keeping himself between his man and the basket, not always effective when you are giving up 4 or 5 inches to the guy you are trying to guard and he just shoots over you but he does a good job. He doesn't always get the calls but he has the courage to get in front of the train and James will feel when he hits. 6'8" 240lbs he is actually even a little smaller than LeBron who is much more of a quick 4 like Jamison or are old friend Antoine Walker than a true wing player.
LeBron has a ton of skills but he is going north and south not east to west, and if you can make him take a jumper you won. I think Leon might be the guy at least to do some of it. He also may work well guarding Rashard Lewis who KG struggles with when he gets drawn away from the hoop.

Re: Can Moore or Powe play some small forward?
I remember how badly chris bosh was blowing by Moore in the Nets-Raptors series. Bosh struggled, but only when Jason Collins was on him. Now chris bosh isn't even as strong as most SFs, and he was outmuscling moore for post position in that series too. The main thing was though how bad Moore's lateral quicks are for such a wiry guy.
Considering most SFs are stronger and quicker than chris bosh...
i don't want moore at the 3, even as a backup.
At the 4, PFs are ONLY stronger, not quicker than him.

Re: Can Moore or Powe play some small forward?
Pierce, Walker, TA, Ray, Giddens, KG, Scal
they are the players actually capable of playing the small forward spot, no more
assuming TA, KG and Scal are out, Giddens isnt an active player.. theres really one alternative outside of the 2 starters
i really hope Bill starts getting consistant minutes, especially against the Cavs tomorrow, we have been saying how we might need him to rest Pierce against Lebron, well this is Docs perfect opportunity to see if thats actually going to work or not, give him 5-10 minutes with Lebron on the floor and see how he does, remember that while hes not an experienced player he definately loves a challenge and has fire in him when he plays, that we have seen.. and he could at least be somewhat useful in containing Bron while Paul is getting some rest

That would be the appropriate tatic for Lebron. But it's not clear how good Lebron is in the post. TA could try to take away his slashes - which is the strength of his game by beating him to spots. It's awfully hard to do (as the offensive player has tons of advantages) but I like the different look it would put on Lebron. And healthy TA is one of the few guys in the league who could do it. I'd rather seen Lebron trying to shoot over him and post him up then watching him pick him rack up foul shots driving to the hoop.
Doc has a few choices. You have Pierce who comes closest to him physically - a guy like Powe who is stronger but far slower to body him. You have TA who can out quick him to spots. And finally you have guys like Moore who will try to bother him with length.
I think Doc will try to mix things up - see what works as well as send doubles over his way. Probably he scores 40+ most nights but if the C's can get him at least tired by the end they have some hope..

Re: Can Moore or Powe play some small forward?
Obviously it is silly to throw one guy at Lebron and think it is going to work especially because the talent CLE puts around him even at PG is capable of being zoned, these are not guys who are going to kill you with motion.
I thought what really worked well against LeBron last season was a two tier approach, (lacking the terminology) as opposed to trapping him 15-18 ft from the hoop which he picks apart anyhow, they would have a perimeter defender attack him at that range and turn him loose and then have an interior defender pick him up outside the circle, Posey was great at this. The hole in LeBron's game is he does not have the mid range game that Pierce and Kobe have at this point, if I was 6'8" 260lb I wouldn't pull up either. Boston has to use that against him. This is were Joe Smith is a big addition for them. Powe or even Baby (Perk and KG are just going to try and block his shot) could cheat off of Varejao or Wallace but Smith is damn good from 10-15 and he isn't going to screw it up.
I think the issues this team will have defending LeBron, Rashard Lewis, maybe Josh Smith if he gets his game together, players who are essentialy quick 4's are much more significant than worrying about who is going to guard Vince Carter or Tayshaun Prince?
