Did you notice the left hand free throw by Rondo?

Post#1 » by aboubata » Fri Mar 6, 2009 2:38 am

At the end of the third quarter Rondo was taking a free throw and they stopped it, so he just switched the ball to his left hand and shot it. It went in and it looked smooth.

I replied it couple times and found it interesting that he could shoot that well with the left hand and not really well with the right hand.
NFL fans are now feeling what NBA fans been living for a while...

Did you notice how Perk has been shooting his free throws? They're still right handed but you could almost say he shoots the ball from his left side, which is very strange.

I'm left-handed, but right-footed, and I play the guitar right handed.

Well most NBA players can shoot with both arms. It really isn't anything surprising.

Some are just better at it: Rasheed, Kobe etc .......

on the topic of freethrows....why does no one shoot them underarm any more? Was it RIck Barry who did last? He shot them at a great % I think...is it just cause its uncool? Or less efficeint?

Underarm may have helped Shaq at some point....and woulda look damn funny to boot.

I think it is the uncool part. I mean if you already suck at something to go to something drastic is only going draw more attention to it. But I think it is something Shaq and Ben Wallace should have at least tried by now.

Barry is actually the best FT shooter ever and his own kids didn't do it. I think it would be a lot better for bigs because the big problem is that they struggle to get any arch on their shot, with a lower release they it should be easier.

But why don't his kids shoot that way? Rick and Grandpa Barry both shot free throws under handed.

I think that Rondo is effectively ambidextrous. He doesn't use his off hand enough when finishing, IMO, but I don't think that anyone in the league passes more with his offhand. That kid delivers some high difficulty passes using his left and makes it look easy.

I noticed his lefty free throw as well and thought that his form was good on it. I really don't like the way he sets up at the line, and that whole rolling his hand over the ball thing irks me. He is starting to fall away on his attempts now too, especially on the back end. This is NOT good. Building a consistent and reliable routine at the line is very important and he just hasn't done that yet.

^I believe in that same article he criticized his kids for not shooting that way, saying they were adults and he couldn't force them to...

It's always amazing the people who can do that. I'm about as right-handed as they come. I can't shoot, finish, write, kick or do anything with the left side of my body. It's always been a weakness of mine in sports. I'm even left-eye sighted (which is the norm for right-handed people). The only thing I can do well is block shots with my left hand.... which is what you're supposed to do (if it's a righty)
