Let's put it this way -- I think Davis is at least as good as his numbers. He blocks out. He's active on defense. While he's not exactly a primary scoring option, he's also not one of those guys who only scores when left wide open immediately under the basket.

As for the article -- he seems like a cool guy. In particular, he seems like somebody who KNOWS he has to mature, and whose immaturity doesn't seem to ever have taken a nasty or particularly selfish turn.

Davis is still terrible. He is like the new Walter McCarty - a fan favorite with jolly attitude and unusual body type but a crappy player.

1 - His defense is consistently bad. His man out scores him. The team plays poor defense when he is in there.

2. His jumper is still not a good NBA shot. His effective field goal % with his jumper is 36%.

I have rarely seen so much love leveled on such a mediocre player. We can only hope that Danny recognizes this and cuts him lose next year. Don't be surprised if he does this.

it's all backed up by stats. The trap with BBD that SOME fans like you are falling into is that you think he is "improving" so a few not so crappy months mean that it will be followed by future improved months.

That's not going to happen, IMHO. It's the trap that so many Mark Blount fans fell into. You WANT him to succeed so therefore you engage in some kind of internal selection of his good play. Everything "good" he does is emblazoned in your memory but all the time he sucks (which really is most of the time) it's ignored.

This is what happens if we resign him. He comes into camp somewhat overweight again - perhaps 10 - 15 pounds heavier. Pouts for a few months - ends up benched. Perhaps has a few not awful months once he plays his way into some kind of shape. This cycle repeats till his contract year when he steps it up.. That's BEST case. Worst case he eats himself out of the league - Tractor Trailor style..

Don't be fooled. It's a matter of effort with BBD. He just doesn't want it THAT much. He DID manage to get in pretty good shape before the draft. But now that he is signed - eh. You got to wait till the end of the season before you see a glimmer of hope.

I won't be fooled. If Powe doesn't step up we need someone better. It shouldn't be hard. Most of the leagues PF are in fact better then BBD.

I'm on board with GuyClinch. Davis is certainly improved from the start of the year, my issue with him is he arrived at camp not ready to play. How good could he have been now, if he hadn't spent the first 3 months of the season getting in shape?

I believe a large part of the improvement is due to the kick in the butt he received when Scal started when Perk went out. I think the light went on at that point, that he was very replaceable. The team also was fairly public about needing another big man, hardly an endorsement of Powe and Davis.

I think Davis will hang in the league a few years with 1 year and team option for a 2'nd sort of contracts. I'm not sure I'd offer him a long contract, at any terms. And although he'd be welcome for another turn with the Celtics, I hope Ainge looks for an upgrade in the off-season.
