New Jersey is just a terrible state to have a Sports team in. The people living in the state have no allegiance to it...
If you move the Nets to the Rock you're destined for failure.

the allegiance has a lot to do with how close other sport teams are geographically and how these teams have been better over the years, for the most part ...
Devils...they definitely have a strong following...as for the Nets, as much as Brooklyn appears to be the better venue, the better basketball city...I really feel you underestimating Newark and its love for basketball...
In regards to the Meadowlands/Izod Center...For Newark based fans who dont utilize a car, and dont want to troop it via public transportation w/ all its connections, ect...Newark is a viable option, that point seems to be overlooked time and time again...you will see a difference w/ an NBA team located in a downtown area of NJ...bottome line its a lot easier to get to a basketball game, and "off the street ticket sales" is something that you really dont see at the Meadowlands...
Enter Brookln Arena Hurdle #235:
"The office was very surprised at how expensive the glass configurations actually were," said the source, who added the arena's price tag jumped from $637 million to $950 million because of the cost of protecting it from attack. "

There was an article a day or two later after the one about the glass configuration saying they were pretty sure they could get another grant or break on the glass issue because it's a "security measure to protect the welfare of the public" or some garbage along those lines. Got to love the pork fat spending!

I gotta say, if we move Vince, this potential move is going to get EXTREMELY interesting. We have potential all stars on our roster (and an all star in Devin), however, moving to Brooklyn we will need to make an absolute SPLASH in my opinion. I will be very intrigued as to what will happen with the whole situation if we move Vince. As of that moment, if moved, I'm sure the people giving us our finances will be curious as well.
I would be completely fine with them going to Newark, however, I still don't believe we'll make money there. I'm not saying we'd make money in Brooklyn either. I just feel if we don't get Brooklyn done, we're going to be the Seattle SuperNets by 2013 at the latest lol.

Well at one time it was stated publically they needed/wanted Vince during the transition to Brooklyn...but obviously money is tight so we're also exploring chopping salary...
I'm neutral...I was all for Newark at one time...but I think it would be nice to see a new arena and more fans...though I feel Newark would better the Nets situation, I wont get into the debate which one is better...some people see Brooklyn not supporting the Nets as much some others think they will come out of woodword...NWK is a basketball city and it will give it a better chance with ticket sales than the Meadowlands could ever...
It would be nice to see the NWK as plan B (especially w. the Rock already in place)...but if they went to Seattle I would follow...from jersey of course...

The Nets won one of their court cases today. There's only one left. The articles also stated that the project has been scaled back for the moment leaving just the arena and a couple apartment buildings or something like that.

They want to start by mid-year? Have fun with that heat and humidity.

That's a shame if the Brooklyn deal falls through. I wanted to see if that would really tempt LBJ.

We should know by the end of this month, end of April at th latest. It looks like the courts think Ratner is a shady character with some of the stuff he's doing, however, that doesn't seem to justify them ruling a case in favor of anyone that has gone against him in court. I only wish they didn't downscale the ACTUAL stadium. Do whatever with the buildings, the original stadium was beautiful. Now it looks "nice" but only because it's new haha, but it just looks like a normal stadium now.

Brooklyn or bust
By: Filip Bondy
The Daily Blahg
New York Daily News
Nets' management really, really hates it when anybody asks about Newark, because Bruce Ratner remains determined to get his team to Brooklyn in two years. Ratner will never move the team to Newark. However, if the Atlantic Yards project stalls much longer, he may be forced to sell the franchise because of huge losses.
This makes the Nets' announcement so odd about playing two preseason games this fall at the Rock. Barry Baum, a spokesman for the team, says the commitment was debated among executives for this precise reason, that they feared it would start rumors about a possible move there. But money is money, and the Nets just couldn't sell preseason tickets at the Meadowlands.
A very specific report has been circulating around the team that Ray Chambers and Lewis Katz are preparing to invest $150 million with Ratner, as part of a contingency deal. If he can get the Brooklyn arena done in two years, fine. Otherwise, Chambers and Katz would purchase the team and move it to Newark.
But again, the Nets strongly deny such an agreement. They continue to fight off a bunch of legal challenges to their Brooklyn project. "We've won 22 of 23 cases and we'll win the last one," Baum says.
He sounds certain. Two years from now, Baum will either look like a truthsaying visionary or a naive flack.
I'm sure this makes some of you extremely happy. Granted, as usual, we don't know what is true and what isn't.

I saw my first Nets home game last season. Needless to say, the Izod Center is looking more and more decrepit each day.
Will the Izod Center eventually be closed?
Are they going to move all games and concerts to the Prudential Center?
I wouldn't mind seeing the Nets and Devils share the Rock. It eliminates traffic in the East Rutherford area.

I'm not so sure. The main attraction there will be coming this summer when Xanadu opens up. Freaking 5 stories of shopping, a snowboard/ski resort with a ski slope, a skydiving simulator, a huge outdoor equipment store, and a minor league baseball team. It will also hold concerts, hold the largest movie theater in the country, fashion shows, and a bowling lounge.
Hell, I could chill here for a few hours and head to a Nets game. Has anyone forgot about this? I did even though I pass it almost weekly. Hell, legalize gambling there and I will move there.

I sure as hell didn't forget about it. I've been waiting for it to open since it first started being built, as I drove past there everyday during highschool for my job.
Go Bergen Cliff Hawks!

Xanadu is the ugliest monstrosity I've ever seen, with that said, it will actually probably be pretty cool when all is said and done. I just feel like I'm tripping balls whenever I look at it.
