I just want to add to this thread, because I'm down for any Paul Pierce appreciation. I've been behind this guy from DAY ONE through the bad times. Anyone who thinks or thought he's not an all-time great Celtic is deluding themselves.

Bird was Pierce's superior both as a scorer and -- which is obvious if my first claim is true -- as an overall offensive player.

I think.

It's tough to be sure, as defences weren't as good in those days as they are today.

18,231 14 to tie and 15 to pass the Chief and become the THIRD LEADING SCORER IN CELTIC HISTORY. He will do it on National TV on Sunday when we beat down Orlando without KG.

And tonight was so fitting - he once again completely outplayed LEBRON THE MAGNIFICENT - and the Celtics won a huge game - and WITHOUT KG!!! 29 POINTS ON 50% SHOOTING, FANTASTIC D on LEBRON, made all the right passes at the right time = sheer brilliance.
SamIam 2010: Truth's ability to play so incredibly efficiently is so UNDERAPPRECIATED. Bballcool 2012: Amazing how great Pierce has been for so long. Continues to defy age! KG 2013: P is original Celtic. Wherever he goes, we go. This is The Truth's house.

That was a brilliant post.

*Salutes* Paul Pierce, one of the greatest players in NBA history.

Here's a guy who never complained, never demanded a trade, and stayed put during the harsh times. He deserves all the merit because we rarely see this blend of talent and professionalism from a contemporary basketball player.

Imo, he's the 4th best Celtic of all-time - with the #1, #2, #3 being Russell, Bird, and Hondo, respectively.

Pierce is good for the sport simply because you seldom see star players stick it out with one franchise. Sometimes, they're traded and other times they sign elsewhere. In most cases, the player dictates what happens. Ainge knew what kind of person and player he inherited. And Paul desired to stay as well. I just wish that the league, national media and fans would treat him with more respect as a tremendous basketball talent and good person who has an active role in charitable projects.

Come on, he's the best small forward in the league not named LeBron James. Stop disrespecting him. He doesn't deserve that crap. Plus, he's an iron man and a warrior. A fearless and confident scorer too. An overall wonder to watch offensively and defensively. The NBA could use more players like Pierce for their image.

Had he not been drafted during the lockout year and had they not shut him down and held him out to tank the 2006-07 season for ping pong balls he'd be almost to 20K right now and he likely would have caught Hondo before hanging it up.

When his career is over he will be a no questions asked 1st ballot HOF'er. He is very likely in my opinion to end up with two or three rings and Finals MVP awards. He may also end up being the main reason why Kobe never wins a ring without Shaq and or the reason why Bird stays everybodies #1 alltime SF.

He is well on his way to 24,000 points, 7,000 rebounds and 4,500 assists for his career depending on health.

Now Pierce can begin to put a dent in Bird's lead.

Congratulations, Paul,

on becoming the Boston Celtics Third All-Time Leading Scorer.

Actually, I think that you're the best scorer
that the Celtics have ever had.

In return for the celebration that you're about to experience,
I want you to cut down on your turnovers.
