Taking Brown over Raji or Jenkins would be stupid. At least he has Beatty falling to us in the 2nd. That'd be a good pick. Doesn't even have Barwin going in the 2nd, either, which is nuts.

+1

and I like Brown a lot. He's my #1 OLB/DE. I know I sound like a broken record and all, but I just think it's repeating the same mistake Thompson did with Hawk if he goes OLB in the 1st.

You won't find a physical freak like Demarcus Ware or Shawn Merriman in the second round (none of the first round DE/OLBs really fit that anyway), but it wouldn't surprise me if one of the guys ends up like James Harrison.

A pass rusher is our number one need on defense, if anyone thinks otherwise than you didn't watch too many games last season. Not sure how some of you can just write off Brown. He's the best pass rusher in this draft. I know OLB is a deep class, but you're not going to find the same caliber as Everette Brown. I'm indifferent at this point. I like Brown and Jenkins, but our defensive line is so thin I'd be ok with Raji even though I'm not a big fan. If Andre Smith drops that just makes it that more complicated.

My personal hope is that Eugene Monroe drops to the Packers somehow. I'm sure everyone would agree that fffensive tackle is a bigger need than a pass rushing outside linebacker at the moment.

Definitely wouldn't mind someone like Orakpo or Brown either, Raji would also be a good pick.

I wouldn't agree with that. Not by a long shot.

Well you got Clifton and Tauscher(FA). Aged 33 and 32, one coming off a torn ACL and might not be back with the team. The other had surgery and was awful last year. The whole line was average to say the least last season.

I'm certain there will be a impact pass rushing outside linebacker available in round 2, but no tackle worthy of being chosen with the 41st pick.

There won't be a tackle worthy of being chosen at #9 either. Smith and Monroe are 100% locks to go in the top four. Andre Smith intrigues me but he's being taken off draft boards for a reason. Oher is crap.

Clifton will be around next season and Colledge can play RT. If nothing else at least one of one of Britton, Beatty, Fulton, Meredith, Loadholt or Unger will be there if they want to keep Daryn on the inside.

I don't hate Brown, nor am I naive enough to believe that a schematic change is automatically going to produce a better pass rush (although I do believe it will make a big difference in our case). I just don't think he's as good of a prospect as Raji or Jenkins, and there are guys to be had in the 2nd/3rd rounds to help out in that aspect who could end up being just as good or better in the long run.

Andre Smith also intrigues me.
He has all the tools and talent to become a great player in the NFL. Dominated throughout his entire collegiate career. His maturity problems only worry me slightly though it might be a bigger concern for the Packers FO.

Depending on his Pro Day I think he will be a top ten pick and a probable pick for the Packers.

I can't stand Andre Smith. He'll have eaten himself out of the league in less than 4 years. I'll take Oher over Smith in a second.

I can't disagree. My opinion on him didn't really change after the combine. Pro Bowl RT, All-Pro guard. I don't know if he can play LT, but if he shows he can handle the athletic speed rushers he could really be special.

One is an elite football player, the other isn't.

Yeah, not sure why Oher will be taken in the first round, but he will be. Hopefully the Bears or Vikes take him.

I would say the same thing about Oher without worrying about him being incredibly lazy and eating himself out of the league, plus Oher has a much better chance of becoming a great left tackle than Smith, whose feet suck. Don't get me wrong, Oher needs a lot of work on his footwork, but he has great feet. There's a difference between having great feet and great footwork. Oher has the former, but not the latter yet.

Edit: Saying Smith's feet suck is an overstatement, but he doesn't have feet to play the left side.

Smith dominated game in and game out and gave up one sack all season. Oher gave up two and a half in his final collegiate game. That's been his story for years. He'll look like a wall one play and a sieve the next.

Both have issues, but nobody is going to question what Smith has done on the field up until this point.

I'm not gonna argue with you that our pass rush is the number 1 problem on D, but I personally don't want Brown at 9. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great player, and arguably the best pass rusher in this draft. But I don't think Brown is worthy of the 9 pick. He was a pretty hot and cold player in college, and I have concerns with his tackling. I think at 9, assuming we stay there, there will be better talent on the board.

I'm wouldn't be too worried about his tackling ability. Remember, he played DE at FSU so he's not going to have gaudy tackle numbers. Well, actually he does. 46.5 tackles for a loss during his three years at State. That's a pretty impressive figure.
