Western Conference Standings Watch
As of today we're in 3rd place, have a 1 game lead over the Blazer sand Nuggets, a .5 game lead over the Hornets and Jazz.
Today's key match-ups:
New Orleans @ Atlanta
---This could help us gain some more ground, as the Hawks have a 21-7 home record.
LA Lakers @ Portland
---This can also help us gain some more ground, if the Lakers win tonight (I'm sure they will), we will have a 2 game lead over the Blazers.
So basically we have to finish Denver off tonight to actually have a 2 game lead over them, hope the Hornets lose, and same goes for the Blazers.
Let's update as the season gets closer to coming to an end, IMO none of this will be decided until the final week, but this is a good way to keep track.

As hot as Utah is, I won't be surprised if they legitimately challenge SA for the 2 seed.

Houston has to play their best basketball to keep thta 3rd spot. utah's on a 11 game winng streak w/ boozer back, rest of their games are vs teams w/ lower records. most of houstons games are vs good playoff teams.
Gonna be an interesting month for both teams.

Atlanta 89, NO 79
A result we like.
But we control our own destiny - let's keep it that way.

Re: Western Conference Standings Watch
2 games ahead of the Nuggets now? 1.5 ahead of the Hornets? Portland looks like it's going to win so they're still a game behind us.
Not bad...
Utah is 1 behind us
Portland is about to be 1 behind us
Hornets are 1.5 behind us
Denver is 2 behind us

I completely disagree, but I think you meant to say "that* might be better for us" so I won't refute. I think if we draw any team in the first round other than LA, SA, or Utah, then we have a good shot of advancing. I'm less of scared of the Spurs than I am of LA or Utah, and I think with momentum and confidence we have a shot of beating SA in the 2nd round if things work out like that. However, I think I should reserve judgment for the Spurs until we finish our season series with them, and they always step things up in the playoffs. I'd love to draw the Nuggets or Blazers in the first round...pleeease.

I'm hoping between us and San Antonio we can keep the Jazz in teh 4/5 spot. That way they have to face the Lakers, and we get the Spurs if we get to the 2nd round.

Re: Western Conference Standings Watch
^ For that to happen, we have to finish ahead of Utah after the regular-season...won't be easy given our tough schedule. We play them in Utah too in a match that decides the tie-breaker.
If we somehow manage that, we'd be 3rd and them 4th = ideal scenario.
We just gotta take care of business. We're a combination of 11 Rocket wins and Sun losses from clinching.

Yall don't realize that we do better against above 500. teams than lower 500. teams. So I would be grateful for our schedule if weren't that we were away on most of our games against above 500. teams.

That was my thought too looking at the remaining schedule. It was more the abundance of road games than above .500 teams that concerns me. Our team has turned from one of the best "road warrior" teams into the Utah Jazz. My theory is the combination of losing T-Mac (who has played better on the road the past couple seasons) and the fact our team has gotten younger and younger over the years. Brooks especially seems to play a lot better at home than on the road.

Re: Western Conference Standings Watch
Utah .5 games back
Portland 1 game back
Hornets 1.5 back
Denver 2 back
Dallas 2.5 back
Tonight:
Utah @ Atlanta
Dallas @ Portland
Hornets @ Washington
Thunder @ Denver
Utah is a terrible road team, and they're finally going to face a good home team, IMO they will lose, I'm hoping for Dallas and Washington to win. Thunder are 5-1 without Durant
So they could possibly beat the Nuggets who have lost 9 of their last 13. But we have to win, because of all of those teams win, and we lose, then we'll probably be in 5th or 6th place.

Hopefully Hawks snap the Jazz's win streak. They're a good team at home.
No way Hornets are losing against Wizards, but I think Thunder could upset Nuggets. Here's hoping
Regardless, we gotta win tonight. Lakers don't scare me, and we're at home. Go Rox!

Re: Western Conference Standings Watch
I cant see Utah losing to Atlanta. I say Utah by 8.
Dallas or Portland. I hope Portland loses. But this shouldn't make too much of a difference.
Hornets should get easy win over Washington, who is in the Blake Griffin Sweepstakes.
Denver is playing bad.. maybe they'll lose against Thunder.
We need the win tonight. We need Homecourt advantage. If we play any of Nuggets, Dallas or Portland in the first round. I feel confident that we will win in a 7 game series.

While NO won, both Portland and Utah lost. We still have the 3rd seed.
