A cheap option for a PG?

Is it an option to bring in Marcus Williams, now that Golden State/Nelson has released him? He fits the Woodson mold. As Nelson states, he is a 1/2 court type of player.
He cost GS a 1st rounder; we should bring him in for the simple fact if there are issues with Bibby and Law is not going to get another chance at the lead role.

I think its a no-lose situation here and we need to act before the year is over even if he isn't playoff qualified. He will be cheaper to grab now than during the offseason.

If there are issues with Bibby/Law we probably just look at what we have with Speedy Claxton/Mario West. Joe Johns obviously get more minutes at the 1 and I'm fine with Mario getting some court time as well.

Hopefully we don't have to worry about this and the backcourt stays healthy. I still like Marcus Williams and feel he can eventually have a solid career.

I just see a fit here, and worth the gamble. Rick Sund doesn't even have to commit any time to him other than to check out his practice habits and see if he fits with this team.
He was behind Kidd in NJ, had to watch Devin Harris take over and never fit into the Nellie scheme.
I truly think Nellie waited on purpose to make sure he wasn't qualified for the playoffs this year befor releasing him.
We do need to improve our bench as soon as possible.

He's established himself as a league minimum guy.

With Marvin injured and the front line thin already, PG isn't the position that I'd be trying to shore up.

I'd take a chance on him for next year in case we lose Bibby. I loved the guy in college, and I remember when he worked out with the Nets that Jason Kidd said his court vision and point instincts were tremendous and that he'd be an all-star some day. Worth a gamble to see if he or Acie could fulfill their potential.

I'd rather go after Sergio Rodriguez and Fernandez from Portland. They might also have a big to move.

It’s been a long time since I wrote here. I usually just read the board, but now I have to write my opinion.

I was a big fan of him when he was at Uconn, and I was shocked when the Hawks didn’t select him. I truly believed that he could be a perfect fit for this team. If I have to choose between him and Law, I would pick him.

The Hawks have to think of the future. Bibby will be out this summer, Speedy will retire … Joe has to play on the wing, U can’t put him back in the PG spot. We all know that the 2-3 is where he can do the more damage.

So it remain only Law at the PG spot … Law isn’t a point guard, he has proven that he can’t run an offense.

The hawks will have serious problems this summer, so the should pick this cheep and solid “card”.

This is a win-win situation.

I'm not opposed to given the guy a tryout, but he hasn't exactly shown up to his previous NBA employers ready to make an impact. If he doesn't show up in the best shape of his life then I don't think he's serious about sticking in the league.

You think we can lure Jarrett Jack here? I know he's a combo-guard (solid scorer to ease JJ's offensive load) but he's far better than Acie.

Not sure about the salary though, seems like he's worth the range of $4-8million.

Anyway, the most likely scenario in the PG problem would be getting someone in the draft or trade it for a experienced PG.

We'd love to give you guys Jamaal Tinsley, but he wouldn't be a "cheap" option by any means. We would not be willing to part with Jarrett Jack.

Jarrett Jack looks comfortable with Indiana, maybe it's not the ideal place for him to play, but he's producing, and I see no reason why he should leave them. Indiana will probably do what it takes to keep him, as long as the money is right, and I doubt anyone is going to write JJ a blank check due to the bad times right now.

Marquis Daniels has a team option for next season that I expect them to not accept. It's going to make it even easier for them to keep JJ. The team is basically what you see this year is probably what it's going to be next season. Larry Bird just better make the right decision with the lottery pick.

I assumed the discussion was for the off-season because Marcus Williams is not eligible to play post-season (on a roster on March 1st). No one would get brought in to play 1 month and then not be available for post-season.


As for Jarrett Jack, he's a restricted free agent this off-season. Indy would want him, but wouldn't go crazy to retain him (by matching any offer). If you overpay to get him away from them he would cease to be a bargain. With all the talk about this being a harsh wake up of an offseason for free agents makes me believe that any offer that Jack could get from another NBA team would be in the range (low enough) that would be matched by Indiana. The more likely threat would be an offer from abroad, but Europe is rumored to not be free spending as much as last year either. Of course, if the stories of financial losses are to be believed then maybe Indy can't match as much as I think.
