"Quack, Quack"
Being That I know everything about the Celtics a friend asked me why Cornbread says "Quack, Quack", I had no reply. Anyone know why he says it?

No offense to anyone who's a fan of Maxwell. But, I think he's the worst color guy I've heard. How many times is he going to mention his ex-wife in conversation? It isn't funny... Oftentimes, like Grande, I'm left scratching my head after things that Maxwell will say. Like, huh? I really don't see what Maxwell brings to the table.
As far as why Maxwell uses the quacking. My guess, it's just a catch phrase on-air people like to create for themselves. Like something fans will know them by, a trademark.

While Max is an acquired taste and a goofball I like the perspective that he brings and at least it is his own. He isn't a total homer and he actually knows the players on the other teams which is refreshing.

Max is absolutely my favorite sports broadcaster. Grande is great, too. I love listening to these guys on the radio, sometimes more than watching the game on TV and having to listen to Gorman and Marshall who are both pretty boring.

No, it has nothing to do with Bird. I remember it having something to do with Ricky Davis a few years back, but I can't remember what it was.

Re: "Quack, Quack"
This is what was in the link that I posted.
If you lived here when the games were on that station you would know what he is talking about, I assume it is off the air but then again I wouldn't actually know. He had to come up with other reasons at the time as the station was kind of sensitive to the fact that its signal sucked. I have heard him reference a disco song from the 70's but this is what it was about he was a Big Show co host and the move from WEEI to the Zone sucked for him.
He’s developed his own signature style over the years, including the “Quack…quack…QUACK!” after a big play. This call originated while the broadcasts were on AM 1510 the Zone, which had a signal that went straight out to the ocean. The call is said to be a reference that only the ocean birds and ducks could hear the call.

LOL "I got the Balllll" Is the greatest line in Celtics history, I love Grande and Max also, Grande is by far the best announcer Ive ever heard (Sorry Mike Gorman) and Max is Max lol, theyre awsome and entertaining.

I like Grande too, I think he is better then Mike Gorman and that's no knock on Gorman I just think Grande is better. The also think the powers that thinks so too but they respect Mike Gorman for the many years he has work for the Cs. That's one reason why I think they will never use Grande on TV to sub in for Gorman if he was going to be out for a period of time and they will use someone like Gary or Donnie because they make Mike Gorman look good. If you put Grande on tv to call the game I think more people will be talking about the guy and how refreshing he is. I'm glad they Comcast atlease allows Grande on New England Sports Tonight every now and again to talk Cs.

Grande is good. But having Sirius w/ the NBA (via XM) I get to hear a lot of other play by play guys. I've heard one guy that that was so fantastically good that you could perfectly visualize the whole situation on the court just from his words. I can't remember which team's announcer it was, but that was a guy with a rare talent.

Re: "Quack, Quack"
Max is great. Fantastic.
I think Sean Grande is an excellent announcer/statistician;
except,
unfortunately,
Sean Grande is unable to grasp Max's superior insight into the game of basketball.
If Sean actually had some insight into the game
(which I suspect can't be learned),
Sean could provide a richer experience.
In the meantime, I hope he realizes his shortcomings
and just defers to Max's expert analysis.

Re: "Quack, Quack"
THE ZONE was great 5-6 years ago -- they streamed online so I could listen in New York.
Ryen Russillo also talked Celtics on the afternoon show (THE DIEHARDS) back when NO ONE in Boston would be caught dead uttering a word about the franchise (WEEI). It's actually quite frustrating to hear all those EEI hacks back into basketball -- save for maybe GLEN ORDWAY who always kept up.

Sully's got it right here. He's referencing the old signal that broadcasted out toward the ocean and they'd joke that only the fish and ducks could hear them.
"I can tell you my testicles are the same size," he added later. "They haven't shrunk. They're the same and work just the same as they always have." - Barry Bonds disputing allegations of steroid use.
