It's long but semi-interesting. Morey played it pretty much status quo (i.e. on T-Mac's timing of his announcement) but he does mention some things that I and probably many other posters acknowledge like how Utah and NO are bad match-ups for us because of their PG play but on the flipside we match-up well vs teams like SA and LA (IMO Odom is a big mismatch for us though). Also things like not really having a closer with T-Mac out because no matter how good of a post player you are it's hard to set up a post play during key stretches.
I know some people don't like Simmons' because people think he bashes on HOU or whatever but if you just take his views as a comedic take from a knowledgable fan rather than some expert analysis or something (as it should) then he has his moments.

I like Bill Simmons. Most of the time...he speaks the truth. Sometimes...fans just will be fans and think that b/c he says something negative about your team that he is bashing it.
For example...when we were up 2-0 against Utah in 07 he said Utah would come back and win in game 7 b/c they would realize that McGrady was the only player on our team that they had to fear. Bashing or the truth?

Not sure what your point is. Simmons makes tons of predictions. Sometimes he's right sometimes he's wrong. He's really just a BOS fan who writes a humorous column and should be viewed in that light, though he is fairly knowledgable. You read/listen to him for his humor and/or if he is interviewing an interesting guest, not for expert analysis. Besides, lost in the result of that game 7 was a really close game. HOU was like a long rebound or two short of winning that series.
He does have his biases though, just like most fans do. He actually wrote a rebuttal about defending his prior stance of Jay Williams over Yao in the 02 draft, delving deep into the "what could have been" scenarios. Once you get into that territory you're pretty much grasping at straws. He just couldn't admit that he was wrong about Yao. It's a pride/ego thing and I understand it. I still like his stuff though. The Luke Walton stuff was pretty funny.

I am not saying he's an expert. I just think he understands the game of basketball more than the so called 'experts' that currently commentate on the league. Most of the times he comes out right with his predictions. There are a few really bad ones but mostly he is dead on. The point I am trying to make is that he is a funny guy that understands basketball and more importantly the NBA and what it takes to win. The reason he always picks against Houston in this Yao/McGrady era is that we have never had what it takes to win. And we have proven that and his predictions correct. So what I am saying is that I agree with you that he is funny and get unnecessary hate and is looked at as someone that bashes the Rockets....but he is also very knowledgeable about the NBA and you can't sell that short.

Knowledgable fans knew the Rockets never were real contenders though. I guess I agree that Simmons does seem more knowlegdable than the so-called 'experts' but in my mind that has more to do with these 'experts' just being really bad overall. I think the only opinions I even give any merit whatsoever is from certain ex-coaches who commentate.
I don't really know how often Simmons is right or wrong though. I suspect he may look right more often than he actually does because he would refer back to correct predictions rather than incorrect ones.

simmons used to be really funny, but now he's just recycling old material so i don't really pay attention to him anymore. never thought he was really a guru or expert of the NBA, more like a knowledgeable fan that says what's on his mind and has his biases, which was entertaining, for awhile.
