OFFICIAL 2009 OFFSEASON THREAD: Something to look forward to

Post#1 » by NashtyNas » Tue Mar 10, 2009 3:41 am

Haven't given up yet, but I'm on the verge of it and need some hope. This team, with this management, doesn't seem like it can go very far, and one of the very little amount of choices we have is to start from scratch. Dump all the big guns (Nash/Shaq/J-Rich/MAYBE STAT) and try to be competitive. Let's discuss the possibilities and hope for a brighter future ;)

TASTIC, what's goin on there in your avy? who's shooting?

And sd, everyone knows that for us, the wild ride that is the season is always followed by an even wilder unpleasant ride to hell in a handbasket

I'm just gonna hibernate for a couple years...someone send me a text when we're a contender. Call if I don't answer cause I imagine hibernation is a pretty deep sleep.

If I were the GM of the Suns...

On draft day...

-Draft Demar Derozan in the first round and draft Jeff Pendergraph in the second round to replace Amundson.

In the off-season...

-Trade Steve Nash and Robin Lopez to the Clippers for Baron Davis and Deandre Jordan.

-Trade Shaq (since he has basically said he wants to be traded) to the Cavs for Ben Wallace and Pavlovic.

-Keep Amar'e.

-Sign Matt Barnes to the 1.9M deal Hill got and let Hill walk.

-Give Swift a one year deal to see how he performs.

-Let Lou Amundson walk.

-Give Alvin Gentry a two year coaching deal to see how he does.

-Play run-n-gun on steroids with this lineup

C-Amar'e/Jordan
PF-Wallace/Swift/Pendergraph
SF-Derozan/Barnes/Dudley
SG-Richardson/Tucker/Pavlovic
PG-Davis/Barbosa/Dragic

lol yeah what the hell are you smoking Mary? I'd rather get a bag of chips than have to take on Davis' contract..

A deal involving Portland for Nash seems not too bad...

Nash for Outlaw/Blake/Bayless + First or Rudy.
Maybe a 3 way where we get those 4, RJeff goes to Portland, and Milwaukee gets our second + Webster.

PHX
Blake/Bayless/Dragic
Barbs/Fernandez/Dudley
J-Rich/Barnes/Dudley
STAT/Lou/Lopez
SHAQ/Stro/Lopez

Not bad, keeps us contending a bit, gets some young talent. Maybe dump shaq + jrich aswell?

something like JRICH for Salmons + Jerome James (I know, RIGHT?!)

B/B/D
B/F/D
S/B/D
S/L/L
S/S/L

not too shabby I guess :) and SSOS would still be on..

Why would the blazers do that deal? The owner might as well rip himself a new **** then do that deal with the Suns.

I watched that video on the Suns youtube channel. Funny sh*t. I was like how you airball that 3? Then I realized the NBA courts are bigger than the ones they have down under. Perfectly acceptable mistake. Happens to the best of us lol.

@Mary

I think Wallace would we worse than Shaq for SSOL. The guy never had an offensive game and his defense has deteriorated so much.

I'd be up for keeping Amare

Barnes wouldn't sign for a 1.9 mil deal. He came to Phoenix for a minimum hoping for a better deal. I'm sure he could get more than 1.9 mill. Hill is walking either way.

I'd consider a Nash/Lopez deal for BD/Jordan. But we would lose a lot of financial flexibility if we get tied to BD's contract. Don't think management would be up for adding more salary.

I think someone said Lou has a team option. Management would be smart to pick it up.

@sd1306

I doubt Nash would have the same trade value after another declined season (stat-wise). We may be able to get Outlaw + Blake. If Blazers are feeling super generous, they may throw in a first. Don't think they would keep only Rodriguez as their back up to Nash considering Nash's age. If I were Blazer's GM I would keep Bayless and Sergio as insurance in case Nash goes down. We may have to throw in Lopez to "sweeten" the deal, since Oden is injury-prone and Przybilla, as good as he is, still needs a back up. Either way, I doubt Blazers would do any sorta deal for Nash, unless they were able to rout us some how.

One player that the Suns need to bring is Loius Amudson. This guys brings it every games, he is not tbe most talented player on the court but he sure brings it every game.

I'm torn about what we should do next year. One thing for sure is that Shaq needs to go if we are going to be runing SSOL. There's a couple of players that the Suns should try to trade for if we want to go and make another run.

1) Marcus Camby: I don't know if the Clippers want to trade him but he would ideal to cover Steve Nash weakness defensively. Camby is a rebounding machine and would also cover Amare Stoudimare lack of rebouding as well. Camby is schedule to make 8.5 mil and quite frankly I don't know who we can trade for him.

2) Tyson Chandler: Would also be ideal to cover Steve Nash weakness defensively. He's a big that can create havoc defensively. Nash and Chandler would create that alley oop that Marion and Nash had. Chandler is going to be making about 11.8 mil and 12.7 mil for the next to 2 years.

3) Al Harrington: Al is going to be a free agent and he made 9 mil a year last year. He would not bring the fear that Camby and Chandler defensively but he would give the Suns opponnets fits on the offensive side of the ball. A lineup that consists of Amare, Harrington, Barnes, Richardson and Nash would do wonders offensively. Plus Harrington is above average defensively.

Other free agents: Josh Powell (Celtics), Brandon Bass ( Mavs) , Antonio McDyess ( Pistons), Brian Skinner (Clippers), JR Smith ( Nuggets), Ron Artest (Rockets)

Yeah they need to move Shaq ASAP. If Nash and Amare are still here, then moving Shaq is paramount.
Maybe the CLE deal, something like

JRich + Shaq + 2nd rounder

for

Varejao + DWest + BWallace

Try and sign Hill again for another min deal, and Barnes for $8m over 3 years
Try and sign someone like Brandon Bass (think he's a diamond in the rough)
Trade Lopez to OK for Damien Wilkins

Go with

Varejao/BWallace
Amare/Bass/Lou
Barnes/Hill
Barbosa/Wilkins/Tucker
Nash/DWest

Wallace's contract SUCKS, but he's to be used strictly as a stopper for Duncan, Gasol and Al J etc...

corner 3 is so much easier to make tastic. man you guys have to come up again. Anyways mary would be a worse gm the kerr and Isaiah Thomas combined. No way we trade for davis.

We need to do some trades and get younger and get a 2010 pick. Keep LOOOOOOOOOOU!

trade Shaq to Cleveland in the Off-Season for Wallace, Hickson, and the 300-400k it woudl take to make the difference.

Amare does all the post scoring while Wallace happily does the dirty work, give JJ a decent amount of playing time and he will turn out well.

trade Nash to NYC for Al Harrington and their 1st rounder. Draft a PG(Holiday/Jennings/Lawson).

Use our pick to draft Earl Clark or James Johnson.

NExt year's lineup looks like this.

LB/Drafted PG(Lawson)/Tragic
Rich/Tucker
Harrington/Drafted SF(Johnson)/Dudley
Amare/Hickson/Lou
Wallace/Stro??/Fropez

Sounds fun to me.

That really wouldn't work for us, considering the fact that it would mean another time share at center/pf, and it wouldn't improve our perimeter defense much (not that West is bad, but hes 6'3, and that's hella under sized for a SG in the west (TMAC (6'8), Kobe (6'6), Roy (6'6), Miller (6'8), Jackson (6'8), Mayo (6'5), KMart (6'8, and so on) are all hard to guard for him. He's doing fine in the east because practically, there's only Dwayne, JJ and VC to worry about. He's not bad at all, but when you have an undersized PG who can't play defense as well, it doesn't help.

A deal for Ben + JJ + West + Sasha for Shaq makes more sense, somehow. West would be the backup to Nash in that case, Sasha would start at SG, Ben at C, and Hickson the backup to STAT.

Nash/West
Pavs/Barbs
J-Rich/Dudley
Stat/Hickson/Lou
Wallce/Lopez/Lou

Doesn't seem too bad, especially if we end up trading J-Rich and signing Barnes, getting a first + some pieces (an expiring big or something? Ironic, I know.)

Please let give Amundson a 2 year extension and lets sign Barnes to a 2 year deal.

As long as Kerr is the GM of this team, offseasons are never something to 'look forward to'.

I love those Shaq deals since almost any deal involving Shaq is good. But why would the Cavs do that trade? They don't have problems scoring and they sure as hell don't need any of our guys for defense. Shaq for Wallace + JJ + West + Sasha would 1. gut their depth at the PF, 2. gut their depth at the SG.

Return to Phoenix Suns
