Chauncey 4.4 APG in February
Nuggets don't know what's wrong......this stat tells a little. Melo goes out, Chauncey feels the need to step up big, it throws everything good that was going on out of whack. Don't tell me no one has seen more clunkers off the rim from Chauncey than in any month in recent history.

Whoa, only 4.4apg?!
I've noticed he's trying to do more scoring lately, you'd think Karl would work out that Chauncey doesn't play as well when he's scoring more and distributing less

Re: Chauncey 4.4 APG in February
I think it's pretty obvious that we're a much better team when Chauncey looks pass and make plays first, then looks to score. I'm jacking these stats from someone's post on NT, they're pretty indicative of that.
3+ assists = 36-18 (.667)
4+ assists = 33-14 (.702)
5+ assists = 29-10 (.743)
6+ assists = 23-7 (.766)
7+ assists = 17-4 (.809)
8+ assists = 13-3 (.812)
9+ assists = 9-2 (.818)
10+ assists = 8-1 (.888)
3+ assists = 36-18 (.667)
4+ assists = 33-14 (.702)
5+ assists = 29-10 (.743)
6+ assists = 23-7 (.766)
7+ assists = 17-4 (.809)
8+ assists = 13-3 (.812)

10+ assists = 8-1 (.888)

We are talking about 1 assist every 7-8 minutes versus 1 assist every 5 minutes.....that's 2-3 minutes of key scoring that probably consists of clanked rims. Wasted time.

That's stat is is alarming, but I think it's more a defensive problem.
Nuggets play with no control. We need someone to yank players out for playing bad defense or not being smart on offense.

Not sharing the ball or getting guys involved properly leads to lack of motivation on the defensive end. It also catches a lot of players off guard. When a shot is jacked up without ball movement, there is usually no one from the Nuggets guarding the offensive glass and 4 from the other team there to take the rebound. That is a deflating feeling to know no one touched the ball, no one moved around, no one rebounded, and now here comes the other team with a freebie.

Corona, you don't have to check if it can't easily be done, but if I remember correctly, didn't the Nuggets winning percentage increase the higher AI's assists were too?
Believe the Nuggets had a fairly long streak of undefeated games when AI had 10+ assists as well. Yet Karl didn't seem to make that part of the game plan. Could the same thing be happening again? Despite the stats saying the team wins when Billups has more assists, he wants Billups to look to score?
So maybe AI really wasn't the problem.

It just makes sense tho, more assists insinuates that a team has better ball movement. The better the teams ball movement, the more defenders get out of place. The more defenders get out of place, the easier it is to score.

True. I'm just theorizing there could be a correlation here. After half a season under Karl, Karl might have finally gotten in to Billups' head to look to score. Melo being out those 15 games may have helped too.
If that theory is true, then perhaps AI wasn't the problem, but Karl's desire for him to shoot more was. When AI got to Denver he was looking to pass, Karl said publicly he wanted AI looking to shoot more, and AI responded by doing so.
The team has been looking pretty much the same lately, as it did with AI. Iso's, bad shots, not a lot of ball movement. So maybe this team could have done a lot better the past two years, if there was a different coach, coaching this team.
Not trying to start an AI fight.. just seems possible.

Yeah I wasn't disagreeing with you, I was just pointing out some basic basketball that the coach seems to not understand.

I see that, lol.. whoops, well, was just expending on my point I guess.
Karl really should real a basketball for dummies book. I'm sure more assists = win is a chapter.

attack the basket with the occasional jumper, and play defense = win.

I mean, it makes sense. More assists = more easy baskets. Obviously we're more likely to win.

More assists also means guys are knocking down shoots. Billups can set up Klieza all day, but he only gets a dime if Klieza actually makes a shoot. I do think Billups has been looking to score more, but the past 10 or so games, not alot of guys outside of Billups and Melo have been able to knock down shoots with any sort of consistency. Thats not going to help Chauncey's assists.

Re: Chauncey 4.4 APG in February
It's not just Billups tho that has to pass more. Kleiza is a good enough shooter to keep defenses honest. So if he makes the extra pass a bit more often, to someone who is slashing against an out of place, rotating defense, The Nuggets wouldn't have to settle for jumpers as much. And easier shots would help them put away teams that they're supposed to beat, not let them hang in a game, leaving them with a chance to get the lead.
Im not singleing out Kleiza, I'm just saying in general, the Nuggets need better ball movement.

Ok, so I'll ask you this: shouldn't rebounding go up then? You miss a shot, the team should be going for the rebound. I'll bet rebounding also did not go very high in February.
edit: In Feb, offensive rebounds went up .4 pg, assists went down 4.3 pg so there's 4 shots pg that we are missing and not rebounding
