I'd definitely sign both. But I don't think it would happen if we could land either Rasheed or McDyess this summer (please Danny!!!), so....sorry Davis' fans...we gotta let your man go.... :D

How come no one has said neither? Both are easily replacable and basically offer equal value.

I think it simply depends on who else the team is looking to acquire. If the team brings in Rasheed Wallace then I really don't see as much of a need for Davis. If the team isn't able to get Sheed than Davis has value because he does a respectable job guarding interior PF-C's.

I think Powe should be signed to a two-three year deal at 2.5-3 million per season. Otherwise he prices himself out of his role, which as Sully pointed out is a somewhat limited one.

I would take Powe as his skills fit his role on the team a bit better. Davis has better man to man D but his poor rebounding and his missing length are worrying me. I would replace Davis with someone who can defend, has length and can shoot the ball from 18 feet (MLE) and keep Powe (below the MLE).

Ideally, you can get a nice, solid center (a true center) behind Perkins. Enough of this platooning of Powe and Davis. Garnett, Powe and Scalabrine are good enough as your power forwards. Davis' place on this team is redundant as long as he and Powe are teammates.

Big Baby will have a 3-point shot by 2010. Mark it down.

I understand your general point but I think the part I highlighted is thrown around a little bit too much. Not by you in particular but in general.

If one universally accepts this position to be true, then there is zero reason to talk about game strategy, substitution patterns, etc, because, well, Doc knows more than us. We can't question an Ainge free agent signing because, well, he had more data at his disposal, better scouting reports and he knows more than us. It is ridiculous to second-guess a referee on a call because they are professionals and have more experience being referees at the NBA level than us.

It is slippery slope once you start subscribing to that being a genuine rebuttal to an argument. Why ever ask why if others in a position of know have already made a judgment decision?

Again, not to single you out but I find it difficult to have an actual discussion when others resort to those kind of arguments. They tend to be topic killers.

As to the topic itself, Glen Davis has more talent but doesn't impact games to the extent that Leon Powe does. Glen Davis, despite throwing his body around and generally knowing where to be on the floor, is just not that good of a basketball player. He can't rebound on the defensive end, he can't finish consistently inside and he foul prone. Furthermore, he is bad as a C and terrible as a PF.

Personally, I take the raw aggression of a Leon Powe and all the flaws that come with it because he instigates and forces things to happen. More oft than naught, those are positive things for the Celtics. While he appears to be totally clueless on defense, the team plays much better defense with him on the floor. While he is shorter than ideal, he plays very tall. He can generate something on most every possession. He is a grind it out player and that can be very valuable.

I take Leon and don't even think twice. I do not want Davis on the team next year because Doc might be tempted to play him an exorbitant amount of minutes and hurt the team in the process. This is the second year in a row that Doc has played a player at PF over Leon (Posey and Davis) who actually make the team drastically worse when they play there. You would think Doc would know this.

The only time Davis might be more valuable is when Garnett is out- because he allows us to have a big man who can still stretch the floor adequatley and personally, I think he's improved a great deal on that jumper- its a respectable shot now.

I take Powe though- his rebounding and ability to get to the free throw line/put other big men in foul trouble is more valuable given the makeup of our team.

The problem is this. Powe is a better overall player. But Doc doesn't like playing Powe along with either KG or Perk. Doc doesn't like playing Powe with KG because he doesn't want KG guarding centers and Powe is too small to guard most centers. He doesn't like playing Powe with Perk because Doc likes to have 1 of his big guys be able to make a jumpshot and neither Perk or Powe can reliably make a jumpshot. So Powe is the better player while Baby might be a better fit (at least in Doc's eyes).

If I had to choose between the two right now for the same price I would choose Powe. Hopefully he works on his jumpshot like Baby did his past offseason and develops some range. Another thing to keep an eye on is how Powe does playing with a real pg in the 2nd unit. In the 6 games that Marbury has been here, Powe has scored in double figures in 5 of them. I could really see him benefiting by having Marbury set him up instead of House.

BbD seems to hit that jumper enough not to drive me crazy. Am I missing something? It's a great shot for a short player to have.

Big Baby will have a really **** awful 3-point shot by 2010. Mark it down.

Fixed

Baby always fouls and plays lousy defense. Baby is only better at being wide and making shots. But i'd rather have ray allen, paul pierce, or eddie house taking those shots.

Powe is a hero. He has the mental game down. He is a warrior like Pierce.

quote="Celts17Pride"]Can't compare Baby & Antoine. I don't see Big Baby shooting 2-13 from 3 point range and then doing a wiggle when he finally makes one.[/quote]

Yeah, he just takes loads of awful midrange J's, misses most of them, and then has that goofy-shit-eating grin on his face and gets bitched out by KG for not paying attention to Doc and cries during a game...s'all good...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
