while the hawks had no chance of winning a championship this year, they had a pretty good chance of winning in the first round and even a decent chance at a 2nd round upset. Besides for that one blowout win by the magic where they hit everyshot they took to start the game, the hawks have done a pretty good job showing they can compete against the top 3 seeds.
amd now the chances of making it out of the first round are even pretty slim. Evans sucks bad. and the hawks have no depth as it is

I don't think there's that much of a drop off. More importantly, I think this means more minutes with a 3 guard lineup of Bibby, Flip, and Joe. I trust those guys in the playoffs a lot more than I trust Marvin. I'll never forget Marvin falling down on fast breaks against the C's last postseason. I'd rather have Flip on the floor in crunch time anyway.

1. Marvin is a better defender than any of those 3 guys. much better.
2. did you really bring up last years postseason to say why you would rather have bibby or flip over marvin? Against the C's, Bibby avg 10 points a game on 30 pct shooting with basically a 1-1 assist to TO ratio. Bibby choked after talking smack and got owned.
3. Its not just having to move flip or Mo into the starting line up. its the lack of depth on the bench now being exploited easier.
4. Flip is pretty unclutch. He might hit a big shot every now and then but thats just because he takes so many. Marvin has hit some pretty clutch threes this year.

Bibby talked smack to take the pressure off the young guys. He didn't back up the smack, but he did it with a reason. Marvin last postseason was totally different than Marvin this season. He could still wilt under the pressure, but his game has expanded to the point where I would expect him to have a good postseason (healthy willing).

Obviously, Evans is no marvin and the hawks are not a better team without Marvin... But there seems to be some pretty good team chemistry with Evans in the starting lineup... He plays solid defense and he helps stretch the floor for the rest of the guys on offense...
I know there is more to this stat than Evans, but we are 9-1 when he starts, proving we can win with him in there. Not to mention it gives Flip free reign over the second team and I love watching him go nuts on offense..

1. Agreed.
2. Bibby is one of the most clutch players in the league over the past decade, don't get fooled by one postseason. Besides he was injured last year and he was talking ish to take the pressure of the young pups. That was smart of him. He's an all-time clutch performer. As for Marvin - everyone in my section cheered durin all three home games against the C's whenever we'd sub him out for Childress (or anyone). That speaks for itself. He was a deer in headlights.
3. Agreed.
4. I'd rather have Flip or Bibby with the ball in their hands than anyone else on this roster (Joe included). You have to have the cojones to take those big shots, and he and Bibby have some of the biggest cojones in the league.
All in all, losing Marvin hurts us in the postseason, but it's not a reason to panic.

Without Marvelous, we've only 4 quality starters.
IF Zaza, Murray and Evans play over their heads and IF Joe stays hot and IF Bibby doesn't disappear (like last year in the playoffs) and IF Horford plays well (not ok) and IF Smoove keeps his head out of his rear end and IF no one gets into foul trouble ......
then we'll be able to go 7 deep, which is thin but barely manageable.
Remember, we were thin to begin with.

My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Valid assessment. A lot of teams only have 4 quality starters, but we really relied on the fact that we had a solid 5 to offset bench issues. Flip is playing out of his mind this year and may have found his perfect situation to blossom. Zaza is what he is. Sometimes he makes a great impact, sometimes he look horrible. He always tries hard and I appreciate that. Mo Evans seems to be a little unsure of his role on the floor and this was prior to stepping in the starting lineup. Hopefully he'll get more comfortable with steady PT. Someone else needs to step up and be the 8th guy or multiple people need to step up on a situational basis to aggregate into an 8th man. Acie has flashes but Deron Williams abused him at will when on the court at the same time. Mario brings energy, defense, and exponentially increases the odds we'll get a loose ball, but his offense is so clunky that it is painful to watch. He doesn't finish well, shoots free throws worse than Josh and doesn't have an outside shot that commands any respect. And Solomon's good performances are so spread out that I understand Woodson reluctance to use him. Definitely not inspiring our confidence at this point in time.

Evans hustles but he is pretty much invisible out there unless he is committing stupid fouls

Re: this marvin williams injury is pretty disapointing...
So does anyone know anything new about Marvin's injury? I'm currently holding down 2nd place in a realgm fantasy league, and Williams has been a pretty important piece of the puzzle for me this year, and I'd hate to lose him now. The suspense is killing me though, I need to know soon whether I should drop him and add someone else (20 team league, pickings are slim, time is of the essence).
Is there any new info out there? I thought he was meeting with people today?

He's out for 4-6 weeks. I just dropped him for Flip "chucking" Murray.
"Marvin Williams' back won't require surgery, but he is expected to miss 4-6 weeks due to the injury.
Four weeks from Thursday would be April 12, after which the Hawks have just two regular season games remaining. In other words, it's time to cut Williams loose for a more productive player in virtually all formats. Maurice Evans has been starting in Williams' place, but Flip Murray is the more viable fantasy option right now." - Rotoworld-

not really a big deal. the Hawks don't seem to struggle when Marvin is out, not like when Josh and Al are out.
Flip fills in very well for Marvin (sometimes the Hawks look great when Joe and Flip are in at the same time) and Evans is a better 3pt shooter than Marvin.
