Final Cuts and notes...

Post#1 » by Icness » Sat Sep 1, 2007 8:23 pm

Some guys of note:
Dhani Jones--out because he doesn't play special teams
Keenan McCardell--he's done
Wali Lundy--who will be in GB quickly, I presume

Jason Babin and Peter Boulware both escape the axe by being traded for one another

Derek Anderson will no longer be a Brown in about 3 hours or so

Brooks Bollinger could be gone if MIN thinks someone will claim Tyler Thigpen

Don't believe the Chambers trade talks--MIA is asking too much for him

Kevin Jones will be removed from the PUP and will be starting for the Lions no later than Week 3.

Where is this coming from? Everything we've heard locally is he would miss our first 5 games (6th week is a bye). I hope your information is correct, and I don't mean to question you because everything I've heard from you seems to be solid. I just haven't heard anything about Jones being back so soon.

Why did the cardinals cut their third round pick from this year already?

Buster Davis was simply too slow, small and not smart enough to make it in the NFL. Couldn't play special teams either, which kills marginal prospects.

FWIW I thought he had little shot headed into the draft, never saw what some did in him. He'll get picked up by someone, a la Darwin Walker, who was a 2nd rounder the Cards cut before his rookie year.

Very shrewd move by the Bengals to drop Doug Johnson in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick. IMO Fitzpatrick can be a pretty good backup QB, and Johnson was just brutal this preseason.

The cardinals may want to look into their scouting department.

Any News on the Titans Icness?

I've also heard some rumors on Jets shopping 3 players. Particularly Justin McCareins (Who is ill-suited to play with an immobile QB), Jonathon Vilma (Who fits better in a 4-3 scheme), and Dewayne Robertson.

The one that I heard on a Titans fan site is Benji Olson for Justin McCareins. Is there any truth behinds this?
I've also heard the Titans have interest in Jonathon Vilma from this same source on the Titans fan site... are there any rumors of that sort circulating around?

Peter? Or Michael?

Wirteap and Subsequent article says Michael.

What the hell happened to him? He looked so good and so promising in his rookie season.

Is that just a guess by you? Or is that real info?

ETA- There is also some rumor on the packer board that Randy Moss might be cut, is there any life to that rumor?

The only notable cut from the Skins are Reynaldo Wynn and Ade Jimoh. Now I'm sure none of you have ever heard of Ade Jimoh but he was a favorite of mine. A very good special teams guy and just an overall great person.

What makes me sadder is that he sucks so much no team will pick him up. :-? :(

Any surprising moves from the Giants, Icness?

Also, what exactly is the Strahan situation going to do to the Giants this year?

I'm praying that that's BS.

And McCairens just took a pay cut, so I think your suggested rumor could happen.

Robertson was a much improved player in the second half last year, he was switching schemes remember like Vilma. There were grumblings that the Jets were talking a trade with the Lions at draft time for the number two pick for Vilma and the 25th pick. Albeit I doubt there was an substance to that rumor. Vilma has been studying a lot this offseason, he was even quoted saying that he tried to do to much last year and that he knows what he can do this year. It was all in his first step that was killing him last year. Then again there are some people that believe that the drafting of Harris that Vilma is still available. As far as Justin, he was in the doghouse the entire year last year for failing his physical test with Mangini the first day of the camp. He passed it this year and has been solid in practice, though I do believe he is being shopped because the Jets love Chansi Stuckey.

Yeah, an insider by the name of Bongo at GoTitans.com and Titans Online Message Boards said that the Jets are quietly shopping Vilma around the league after drafting his replacement, David Harris, this past draft.

I loved Justin when he was with the Titans. And I honestly would've preferred him over Drew Bennett (Since we couldn't keep both at the time). I think he's a better fit with a mobile QB.

Yeah Justin has been a bust since he signed a 7 Year 36 Million dollar contract I believe it was with the Jets. The fans like Stuckey and Smith over him, and honestly I would love Bennett on this team. I would gladly swap the WR's...

Nah...Bennett's gone now. He signed with St. Louis. I honestly could not take him anymore. He's a roller coaster of catches. I know he's a converted QB and everything, but he'd make the most impossible of catches, and get your hopes up, and then the next play, he would miss a catch where he was wide-open and no one within him in a 10-yard radius. It frustrated me to no ends.
