Doc is killing Paul Pierce!
If we don`t repeat a huge reason for it, IMO, will be because Paul and Ray will be burned out by the time playoffs start. The minutes they have been playing lately, especially Pierce, are ridiculous.
PP averaged 41.1 minutes in February. Ray Allen 37.7 mpg. For comparison Lebron averaged 36.2, Kobe 36.5, Wade 39.4...
In March it is even worse. PP last 5 games: 48, 37, 45, 45, 41!
Before the season Doc said he wanted to cut big three`s minutes to around 32 mpg. He has done a good job with KG but PP is playing 37.7 mpg which is over his career average! That at age 31 on this team is just absurd. Ray Allen is averaging 36.5 mpg.
We have heard Rivers talking about reducing their minutes in the last few weeks but instead of doing that he has been playing them even more. You can see that PP just doesn`t have the energy at the end of games anymore. It seems like he is running on fumes but Doc just refuses to play him normal minutes.
I hate Doc for being so stupid sometimes. Why can`t he give Walker 10+ minutes per game? He looks good when he gets playing time. Even Giddens could get a few minutes to bring some energy to the team...
I have pretty much lost any hope that this will change until we get KG back. It is a pity because I don`t see PP playing at the level he played last season in the postseason due to exhaustion. How is he going to battle players like Lebron, Wade, Johnson, Kobe when he has to play 40+ minutes in the regular season?

What do you honestly expect? Bill Walker 40mpg? Homecourt is huge, and to win games, you need you best players on the floor. I think Pierce is kinda good, ya think?

Re: Doc is killing Paul Pierce!
against the heat tonight, probably wasnt much he could do with all the injuries
but
i completely agree, he has been overplaying him and ignoring fans, and even his own calls to give him some rest
we need to get him some rest, somehow
Docs minute management, and rotations are horrible sometimes.. well, often

Doc is strange. Here is why:
- We don't want to rush our injured players back
- Great chance for other guys to step up
- Plays Pierce & Allen more
- Does not play guys who CAN prove themselves; Walker, Pruitt
- Says he'll play Pierce and Allen less, but he doesn't
- Does not seem concerned we're losing #1 seed
- But admits home court is important

I would expect Doc to play Paul and Ray 35 minutes per game. If he did that they would be much fresher in the 4th quarter and we might even have a win or two more, not less. PP playing 48 minutes isn`t better than Pierce playing 38 minutes and Walker 10, IMO.
We will regret this in the playoffs you will see...

No kidding...I agree it'd be nice to see the minutes come down but who is going to sub in and there will be little drop-off? Walker? Giddens? Yeah right!

Because he should totally listen to us fans who know better, right?

Re: Doc is killing Paul Pierce!
both the guys above have good points, i dont think paul for 48 minutes is more effective than paul for 38 and walker for 10... he IS human whether he seems that way sometimes or not
also, doc is definitely contradicting what he says with what hes actually doing, and its frustrating

5 players missing. Early foul trouble for many. A 1 point game with about 4 minutes to go. On 2 full days rest. Not a back-to-back game. In those circumstances, RA and PP playing 40 and 41 minutes respectively isn't outrageous.

Re: Doc is killing Paul Pierce!
well, DA didn't get a veteran back up for the 3 spot. you can say that bill walker should have been getting more PT since the beginning of the seasons but DA should have known Doc doesn't play rookies. think how long it took for him insert gomes or powe into the rotation when they clearly played well in college. in those years, the Cs blew. there was no reason not get them in there but it took injuries and them having a couple of big games on their part for them to crack the rotation. so if Doc is killing PP, it is taking place a situation DA created.

Agreed...
Didn't Mikki Moore alone have like 4 fouls in the 1st? If he didn't, it felt that way!

The heavy minutes is a bit bothersome. However, I take comfort in the fact that April is a very easy month schedule-wise, where the Cs have a 5 day break if I'm not mistaken. Plus they also have a pretty long homestand to boot. Hopefully Doc gives Pierce and Ray a few days off.

Re: Doc is killing Paul Pierce!
Honestly for support of a repeat from the front office to the rotations the Celtics organization has been outplayed.
Cavs and Lakers who already had great depth got more depth for their team, where the current Celtics got less and they are playing their stars less while still winning more then the Celtics.
The ball was in our hands and the organization didn't capitalize.

Re: Doc is killing Paul Pierce!
Pierce needs to play 45 minutes...we are down 5 men..him and Ray need to play more minutes..only til the rest of the guys get back. This is a moment where we need to count on our two stars. You guys see LeBron asking to play more time in games to get his team the #1 seed?? Anybody here think that if Mo goes down for 10 games, LeBron wouldn't play more to make up for that? Seriously..this is basketball..not soccer...you don't have to run a big ass soccer field for 45 straight minutes, and then 45 more like a wild cave man...in basketball you get time-outs, the clock is always stopping with fouls and violations, you can control the pace of the game you have rest between the quarters, and halftime...Pierce barely walked yesterday..what the hell is he tired of?? If somebody should be tired it should be Allen..dude runs off picks the whole game, yesterday had to run around guarding Wade..come on now...this is only for a while...when the team gets back, they will go back to their normal playing times...as for now, they need to play some basketball....if they want to do a favor for themselves, then blow out teams in the fisrt half and get rest in the second..

Um, no. Maybe 12 minutes? Pierce down to 36 would be terrific and Bill Walker can contribute positively in 12 minutes. Even in games he is acting like a second round rookie, he is at least giving off energy and resting Paul. It's all a plus.

I can agree with this. Not resigning Posey and settling for Mikki Moore aren't looking like good moves at this point...

The difference is Lebron is 24. PP and Ray are older and have a lot more games in their legs. I wouldn`t have a problem if they played big minutes in games against CLE or ORL but Pierce averaged 41 minutes in February and is averaging 43 minutes in March! That is crazy!

Okay..switch LeBron with Kobe...Kobe is about the same age..if Gasol went down don't you think he would play 60 minutes a game if he needed too?? 48 minutes of basketball is not that much. Before the injuries he was getting 11 minutes of rest...he will got back to that when the injured return. Til then, him and Ray need to play for us to even have chances in these games. It's not like he is averaging 45 minutes thru 80 games...is been 43 minutes thru maybe 10 games....but of course, if Doc can somehow make this team competitive, and yet still manage to rest PP and Ray, then im all for it...he should try and make them play 38-39 minutes at the most, during this period of games..but I just don't see how he does that and still wins...maybe if Marbury started scoring like he used to score 5 years ago, we can rest them more..

Wel the problem is we are not winning! I could live with big minutes a lot better if we weren`t losing so much. But you can clearly see that PP is fatigued and doesn`t have the legs in the fourth quarter when we need him most...
I never though I would say this but I miss Tony Allen!

And we shall continue to lose if we play them less..at least playing them we have a chance. And of course you miss Tony...Tony would be a blessing from the heavens right about now.

Re: Doc is killing Paul Pierce!
Doc is such an idiot why doesn't he just play 4 guys at a time then we can keep their mins down.
If not that at least start Walker and Giddens with Moore and Marbury hell these guys haven't played any mins all year they have to be fresh.
Somehow I think this is all Tony Allen's fault and they should release him, and sign some SF from the D league.
I know some of you yahoos at least thought these things.
