Is there any other duo play that can trump Kobe and Pau's pick and roll play? That play especially in close games is ridiculous. Kobe is so crafty with the pick that he manages to keep both defenders off balance. Then you have Gasol who can either roll or pop and he is so good at reading the tendencies of the defense that it allows Kobe to get all the space he need to get off the shot. Not to mention that they space it so goooood that they get it done in the mid range or in the high post.
Against Boston last Christmas, the Celtics decided to pressure Kobe, setting Pau free for the jumper and the drive.
Against the Rockets, Kobe's footwork derails Yao who looks like he is on stilts guarding Kobe.
Against the Spurs in the playoffs and last night.
The only reason why we lose close games is because we cannot defend at times. We just have to clean that up and I am confident we can win every close game in the playoffs.

Easily the most dangerous play in basketball today. I'm actually disappointed that we dont use it more.

I think the Lakers do not want to milk it. I believe that is a weapon of luxury. We only use it when it is game time.

Re: Kobe-Pau PnR the best in the league
Kobe & Pau are deadly when they have it working. I agree the reason we lose close games is because we cant defend @ times but thats not the only reason. The other is brain freezes. When we become a 48 minute defensive team & and all around smarter team, we will threaten almost every record there is. We have weapons all over the court. Offensively & Defensively.

pau is the perfect compliment to kobe.
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

Re: Kobe-Pau PnR the best in the league
id have to say parker/duncan, nash/amare and deron/boozer combos are high on the list
id also have to say the kobe/pau PnR isnt as great purely because we dont exploit it as much as we should, and because we don't exploit it as much, things can go wrong:
1. kobe sometimes throws bad passes at gasol's knees
2. gasol sometimes gets confused and rolls rather than pops (it happened just last night!)
3. kobe doesn't turn the corners as sharply as parker/deron/CP3 nor does he accelerate towards the basket as quickly
4. gasol doesn't roll very hard to the basket, especially when gasol's big man jumps the screen
its the #4 or #5 PnR at best
guys less homerism plz, kobe isnt your prototypical PG (stockton) and pau isnt your prototypical PF (malone)
in fact, the kobe/malone PnR was better than the kobe/pau PnR

Re: Kobe-Pau PnR the best in the league
Here's why Kobe + Pau is the dangerous PnR in the game today. If you don't help on Kobe on the Pick n' Roll; he will either get to the rim and finish or he can raise up on you with a jumpshot, and we all know Kobe can hit them on a consistent basis. If you however help on Kobe on the Pick n' Roll. He can pass to Pau Gasol who can hit the open jumpshot and can finish around the basket w/ his length.
