I'd throw up if that happened. I'm not nearly as enamored with Rubio as many on this board are.

Then again, I'm not enamored with Stephon Curry either...so maybe its just me. :(

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

^^^ I'm with you, man. The way I see it, if we take a point guard with one of the top picks, we're essentially saying that that player will play a boatload of minutes next to Gilbert Arenas. That means we're going to have two small players playing a huge chunk of minutes as our backcourt. And it's not as if either of them are defensive stalwarts. Talk about mismatches galore.

This team cannot afford to get any worse on defense and drafting Curry or Rubio would do that, IMO.

If you have the chance to draft a young Nash or Kidd, I think you have to go for it w/o blinking. Ricky would only be 22 when Gil turns 30. I would only be upset if we select Thabeet if Blake, Harden, Rubio, and Hill were already gone.

He was 10/15 from the floor and 3-6 from three. All that in a low scoring game. He's got a great motor and he's more athletic than he's give credit for - showing some very nice hops while blocking shots on the fast break.

On the other hand, he violates my cardinal rule that white swing men are always overrated.

If he pans out on the NBA level, I think his game will be a lot like Matt Harpring in his prime.

Except Harpring was like a PF in a SF's body in college (who later developed some range), while Singler is like a tweener in a tweener's body. He does do a lot of different things well and seems to play off the ball real well. And he's got a really nice stroke on his long jump shot. I see him being a big-time 3 point shooter in the NBA - more prolific than he's been at Duke. I think he'll be a very good 3rd forward - one of those guys who can score 15 points without you noticing.

If we're picking 5th, I think you have to take Thabeet if those 4 are gone. Just for the value factor. Yeah we've got a plethora of bigs, but other than Haywood, none have shown they can be a defensive anchor. Plus, with our financial situation, who's to say Haywood will still be Wizard after next season.

If we're going to get a coach that focuses on defense, Thabeet would be a nice player to build around. Imagine Haywood and Thabeet splitting time at the 5...that's guaranteed paint protection for 48 minutes every night. No more reason to "protect the paint" with guards sagging into the lane leaving 3-point shooters wide open every night....even though a competent coach would probably ditch that strategy anyway.

Being in the same division as Orlando, we're going to be seeing a lot of Dwight Howard for a long time. There's only a handful of players that can handle him one-on-one....it would be nice to have 2 that could do it.

I know everyone is afraid of where that leaves McGee. Well, maybe he can play the 4 like his mommy wants him to. If I draft Thabeet I'm looking to deal Blatche + whatever for a 2 guard. Thabeet at the 5 with McGee at the 4 would make for an interesting future.

And even if Thabeet isn't in our plans, you draft him to trade him because he's the best value. And there's always a market for young bigs who are pretty much a lock to be defensive anchors in the NBA. After all, defense wins championships.

^^^^
Yep, there is the chance that we let BTH walk when his contract is up if Thabeet is there. That gives us 3 skinny bigs to work with & more cap space.

Reminds me a lot of Corey Maggette -- freakishly athletic frosh who has yet to develop his J.

Harden's a nice player, but he goes right less than Nancy Pelosi.

I'm frustrated with this draft...the Wiz need guard talent badly, and there's not one worthy guard to draft with our pick.

Damn, if Haywood and possibly Gil make it back for enough games, we might win ourselves out of the top-5 spots. Haywood has been officially cleared, so there is no reason for him not to get spot minutes.
...and Gilbert, you know he's going to at-least make an appearance.

Well, Haywood and Gil playing 10 minutes a game are not going to make all that much difference.
Help us, Obi-wan Leonsis. You're our only hope.

Uh oh. Someone strap down WizarDynasty:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball ... caab,74465

Al-Farouq Aminu is a McDonalds All-American and is headed to Wake Forest to play basketball. That is, unless Wake Forest decides that, as an institution, they frown upon prospective students driving around and shooting other people with BB guns.

Aminu and two teammates were arrested on felony charges of aggravated assault and misdemeanor criminal trespass. On March 14th, the three of them sat in a car outside of the home of Branden and Rebecca Baltich, and, for some reason, decided to shoot at them with a BB gun. The woman was shot in the stomach, and the back window of the man's truck was shot out.

But the guy chased after them and got a description of the car and a license plate number. Cops found the car later back at the school.

The couple want police to go easy on the three delinquents.

"I'll tell you, his shooting at my house was much better than his shooting at the McDonald's game," said Branden Baltich, referring to Aminu's 0-point performance Wednesday.

Well, Arenas will probably make a difference. He usually has a positive effect on 2's that play with him. Hughes and Stevenson became better players. I expect/hope that'll happen with Young and whoever else plays the 2 for the Wiz next season - perhaps DMac.

Great line by Mr. Baltich. It would also fit for his game against Maryland - 2 for 12 - playing against a front line with nobody over 6'7. With his freakish length, that's pretty amazing - even against a zone. He needs another year of physical and - apparently mental - maturity, but dude has seriously great potential. That game also showed Teague's weakness as a point guard - that being - he's a shooting guard playing the point.

Glad AZ made the tourney for the simple reason that
it'll provide more/better opportunities to see Hill and
Budinger (who I'm not as interested in now thinking more
along the lines of Henderson, WIlliams or Turner as a
2 way swing man prospect).

Randy (St. Paul): Hey David, are you very high on Thabeet in this years draft? There is just something that scares me about a 7 ft center, with tons of "raw potential" that can't score.

David Thorpe: I wouldn't draft him with your pick.

Ruz, I don't care if the guy's knuckles scrape the floor when he walks. I think the "Andray Blatche Rule" is that you don't draft low character guys and "hope they mature." I mean, there are youthful indiscretions and there's shooting people with a BB gun. Pass an Aminu -- period.

Aminu needs another year of school. So does Derozan. They need coaching and teaching badly. Especially Aminu.

FWIW

Washington, DC: What have you heard from the Wizards regarding who they like in the upcoming draft?

Ivan Carter: I can't anyway speak for Ernie but I can tell you this: it's a one man lottery with Blake Griffin being that man. After that, I really believe they will do everything they can to trade the pick.

If we have a top 3-5 pick, I hope this isn't true.

Return to Washington Wizards
