Re: College players thread/ Draft Related thread
budinger is a pretty easy yes from me at the MIA pick. He's probably in my top 10 players for the wolves for players that are available in this years draft.
I'd be pleased with one of: Griffin\Harden\Thabeet\Rubio with our early 1st
content with Holiday\evans\jennings\???
One of these guys with the mia pick: Turner\Curry\Budinger
maybe derozan?? he should stay a year imo.
It's really hard for me to say...

I agree.
For me a perfect draft would be:
MIN) Rubio (but I wouldn't be upset with Griffen, Harden, or Thabeet)
MIA) DeRozan (but I wouldn't be upset with Budinger)
BOS) Jordan

Don't forget about the superstar we're gonna get with the Boston pick.

Zach Randolph>Frye. Kevin Durant > Oden. Random guy off street> Pritchard.

This reel really sold me on Budinger; I'd be interested to hear what people who have the patience for it think. It also has a lot of great jordan hill highlights:

I think Arizona had some strong recruiting classes including the (allegedly) 5 star recruit Budinger, but Arizona bumbles into the tournament every year and gets knocked out early, so even though thats not all his fault, he was apart of that and rather than try to figure out how much apart of that he was/is, probably most people would rather pass him over altogether.
what I personally wonder about him is what his motivation is; the 2 main motivating factors in a successful NBA player is probably personal glory in being the best and money, but Budinger pretty much put up the same numbers all three years at Arizona, so I don't see much improvement there from that angle, and he keeps going back to school so money doesn't seem to be an issue.

Re: College players thread/ Draft Related thread
Idk, if Tyreke Evans has a strong tournament, I could see us making a play for him (especially if we end up at #6 or #7). Too me, he is a more athletic version of Harden and there is not much to write home about after Griffin, Rubio, Thabeet, Harden and HIll. Evans could handle the lead guard duties with Foye playing off guard. If we can get Evans and Aldrich out of this draft, I would ecstatic. Jared Jordan would be a nice prospect to pick up as well with Bostons pick. We would have to trade up from Miami's pick to get Aldrich if he comes out, if he doesn't, then I see the Miami pick as the optimal pick to be traded.
Either way, I want some height and athleticism no matter which position we draft.

Re: College players thread/ Draft Related thread
yep, it was a good day for Evans. There were 2 plays that stuck in my mind; one was him driving off the right baseline, does a spin move into the lane, then he was bottled up but was able to immediately jump up and turn 180 degrees in the air against the momentum of his spin move and kick the ball out to the open man on the perimeter. That's an underrated play, but showed some nice athleticism and vision as most guys wouldn't have the power to jump back on their momentum like that and make that pass and would have to pass the ball cross court and probably get it picked off. And then one play he challenges Jordan right at the rim, knows to go right at him and not away from his long armed defense, gets the 'and 1'.
I'm liking the potential he has to be a strong finisher at the rim, but also having the vision to not just make the pass when he gets cut off, but the ability to make the best pass necessary. Obviously as a young guy in basically his 1st year of competitive organized basketball he's gonna make bone headed plays too, but I like the possibilities once he gets the experience. He seems peripherally aware on defense too.

DeRozan has looked really good (except on the ft line, wtf?) in the PAC10 tourney... anyone else watching?

yea but Az State doesn't really have anybody to match up with him. Harden could probably shut him down if he wasn't already busy with all the ball handling/scoring/playmaking/travel itinerary/laundry duties

Re: College players thread/ Draft Related thread
It's interesting, I think that this is the first game all year that I've seen DeRozan actually asserting himself on offense and trying to create of the dribble, and, surprisingly, he doesn't look too bad.

Well, he also owned in the game against UCLA. This is like my 3rd game watching him, he's been impressive in 2 (the last 2) and invisible in 1 (early in the season).

Mostly Shipp I think, but Poo Holiday did a bit too.
I definitely see a bit of Paul Pierce in the way DeRozan has been playing. Granted, it's a very small sample size.

Derozan is tearing the defense up tho, no doubt about it. AZ St. has a weak roster though, Glasser cant even dribble. Harden would be such a beast for the Wolves, that'd be great if we could get him. He'd probably be so amazed not to see a perimeter of 5 defenders encircling him at all times.

Yeah, I think a Harden/Big Al pick and roll combo would be lethal.

Everyone seems to love Evans, BUT does anyone have any proof that anyone related to basketball thinks this guys has a shot at being a top 10 pick at this point?

Re: College players thread/ Draft Related thread
Who to take depending on position...
Our pick
-1/2 = Rubio
-3/4/5 = Thabeet
-6/7/8/9 = Evans
Then if we take Thabeet I'd like to see us package picks to move up and get Evans. Or if we take Evans, package picks to get Aldrich.
C - (Thabeet/Aldrich)/Love
PF - Jefferson/Smith
SF - Miller/Gomes
SG - Foye/Brewer
PG - Evans/Telfair
We'd still have the expiring contracts of Miller, Cardinal, Madsen, and Cookie to move for a potentially longer contract o f a star SF from a team looking to rebuild. Josh Howard maybe? Marvin Williams? Any other ideas?
I love Tyreke Evans, I think he's just going to be amazing. If we get Ty Evans and aren't able to package picks, I'd love to see Earl Clark slip, and also grab Jerome Jordan. Or maybe Cookie's packaged with a pick(Miami or Utah, plus Boston) to move up, get a longer contract, and we draft Dajuan Blair to take Craig Smith's spot as a back-up monster PF with an enormous wingspan and backside. Maybe a Luol Deng or Richard Jefferson in that case?
Bucks Give: Richard Jefferson + Malik Allen + #15
Wolves Give: Mike Miller + Craig Smith + Mark Madsen + #23
Bulls Give: Luol Deng + #13
Wolves Give: Mike Miller + #23 + #27
Rumor is Chicago regrets signing Deng to his deal, this gets them out of it, while giving them a wing who can help Derrick Rose run the team, plus knock down shots off the Rose's drives. The extra pick helps them fill out the roster while being over the salary cap. In 2010 they have plenty of money to throw at Dwayne Wade.
Pacers Give: Mike Dunleavy + #10
Wolves Give: Mike Miller + #23 + #27
Indiana's hurting for money, maybe the chance to 10.5mil in 2010 will be attractive enough to drop down in the draft? Maybe Miami's pick would be needed instead?
The idea is to be able to pick up a talented wing, one who can score, even though he can't shoot this year, plus get either Thabeet and Evans or Evans and Aldrich. Wolves are still sitting well in 2010 with the possibility of maybe adding a max, or near max free agent, maybe a Joe Johnson?
Wolves in 2010
C - (Thabeet/Aldrich)/Love
PF - Jefferson/Blair
SF - (Dunleavy/Deng/Jefferson)/Gomes
SG - Johnson/Brewer
PG - Evans/Foye
Maybe try using Cookie and Cardinal instead of Miller at first?
Either option we end up becoming a lot bigger team, better rebounding, and likely a better defensive team.

I nominate john2jer to take over basketball operations for the Wolves.
