Walton asked to come off the bench.

Post#1 » by TonyMontana » Sat Mar 14, 2009 8:45 pm

I dont know if this was posted before, but I guess Luke didnt want to start and he asked Phil if he can come off the bench.
I think he's right, I think if were going to start L.O then I would rather have him start than Luke, but what about our second unit with Luke?
So question, who would you rather start Luke or L.O and why?

HOUSTON - It took a suggestion from Luke Walton to get Lakers coach Phil Jackson to break his pact with Trevor Ariza not to reinsert him in the starting lineup this season.

With the second unit too reliant on quick shots and one-on-one forays to the rim, Walton approached Jackson on the flight to Houston and volunteered to come off the bench against the Rockets. Jackson like the idea so much he's going to stick with for now, sending Walton to the bench to provide unselfishness and ball movement to the Bench Mob and insert Ariza into the starting lineup to provide a much-needed energy boost

"I think I can help the bench a lot as far as facilitating the offense and getting it moving," said Walton, who posted eight points and five rebounds in 23 minutes.

With a son like him, every day is father's day.

only he's doing it backwards :)

he should be pulling for keeping his starting gig as opposed to fighting for a bench spot

I see Luke Walton as a Head Coach or an Assistant Coach for the Lakers someday.

Honestly hermes I could careless if he starts or comes off the bench as long as he is productive for us, I mean we are paying him, RIGHT?

Tony, I'm confused, man.

Why is the question who are we going to start between Luke and Lamar? Are you talking when Bynum comes back? Because, as for now, it's Luke or Ariza. I think once Drew comes back then it becomes Lamar or Ariza (unless Luke is just not starting only while Socks is out).

His tongue is way too heavy to be a coach.

It's the "you can't blame it on me" syndrome. Probably realized the team was really struggling with him on floor, but said he wanted to help second unit........ahh okayyyyyyy. But you can't say Luke ain't a team guy.

I'll do you one better Tony.

As long as Bynum is out go with Lamar and Luke on the bench.
The pro's:

1. We transition Lamar back into the bench so when Bynum comes back we role with our Opening Day Roster.
2. The ball movement in the 2nd unit will be nuts with both facilitators.
3. Josh P seems to benefit with all the pick n rolls with Kobe and is a real hustle guy for the Starters.
4. More minutes for Trevor and less for Luke..but have the luxury that if the ball becomes stagnant with the Starters you flip flop Luke and Ariza.

We have a very flexible team

He still would get the same minutes as if he were starting. It's just adding a pop off the bench. You can laugh your *ss off all you want but I know it would work.

You enter Lamar in at the 7 minute mark of the 1st. Let me play through the 1st and into the 2nd with the Bench. When you sit Lamar for a couple of minutes you bring back in Pau and then for last 4-5 minutes of 2nd qt you bring lamar back with Starters.

If anything Lamar might play more minutes.
