McHale on Doc

Post#1 » by Fencer reregistered » Sun Mar 15, 2009 7:49 pm

It seems Timberwolves coach Kevin McHale will not be voting for Robinson as the Sixth Man of the Year.

McHale wonders if Robinson would've survived in his era of more physical ball like the great Tiny Archibald flourished.

"Tiny Archibald was way better than Nate Robinson," the outspoken McHale said. "Today's game is way more benefiicial for little fellas because you can't beat them up. There's no handchecking. I'll tell you, Doc Rivers would handcheck Nate into Mike D'Antoni and say, 'Stand over there for a while.' "

I remember watching Doc on those very good Atlanta teams in the 1980s...he was a TOUGH PG...

Great quote from Kevin!

And then Doc played on the Pat Riley Knick teams that pretty much perfected thuggish defense.

If Riley didn't leave banged up Doc off the playoff roster that year they would have beaten the Rockets in the Finals. (Back then you had to choose your roster for the entire playoffs before the first playoff game.)

^I'm glad the Knicks lost...they already think they're one of the greatest teams of all-time because of those two championships in the early 1970s...if they had one as recent as the mid-1990s the Knicks' fans would be insufferable!
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
