Doc Fined for Comments about Ref

NEW YORK -- Boston coach Doc Rivers has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for criticizing a referee earlier in the week.

Rivers was penalized Thursday. He was irate following the Celtics' 127-121 loss at Chicago on Tuesday night, after he got whistled for his second technical foul in the final minute. That led to an automatic ejection and a rant against referee Bill Kennedy.

After John Salmons' basket gave the Bulls a 124-119 lead with 29.8 seconds left, the Celtics called a timeout and then Rivers got tossed.

The league also fined referee Kennedy an undisclosed amount.

I am surprised, but happy, the league is also fining Kennedy at all. Doc was right. He was being extremely unprofessional.

Wait, so they're admitting Kennedy screwed up by fining him, but they're also fining Doc? Way to go NBA.

Why not make Kennedy's fine amount public as to show other NBA referees what the consequent is for their actions. I mean an undisclosed amount seems like a quiet way of saying he was punished too. This makes me think it's a minuscule amount by comparison to Rivers' fine amount.

Well, an equivalent fine for a ref making 50 grand is only 227 dollars.

My thoughts exactly. And they have no problem announcing how much $$ Doc was fined, yet the ref gets fined "an undisclosed amount"...what was it, $100.00?

The $25 grand was for comments after the game to the press. The bigger part to me was the league fining Kennedy for his actions, which were during the game. That's admitting he was wrong. They won't ever say it..but he was wrong..the bastard. The tech and the tossing were wrong and the points given in such a close game and even how the game was called. This **** starts from the top down and it only gets stopped like this when a ref goes overboard because the league has let it get this way. The C's have been dumped on since early this season when other teams started crying about us being rough, which was a crock of **** and the refs have been on our case all season. Earlier in the season there were memos stating such about watching us as a team...Perk with techs...KG actions on the court....our bench having to stay seated during the game and many other strange actions like the 6 on 5 in Portland. We have been refereed with a fine toothed comb all season and there has been a reason for that....because it have come down from the top. Now the playoffs are coming and more eyes will be upon the refs and more banging and less fouls will be called....our kinda game. They got their way. Cleve and LA have the advantage of the courts like Stern wanted....the injuries helped. Now the C's have to break the hopes and dreams of mice and men and drive a dagger into all of them and get healthy and take it back and repeat......sweet. 8-)

Damn! I've never seen Kefa so...so mad!

But I completely agree: the officiating in this league is a joke. And the double fine is such a cop-out. If the ref was wrong, why doesn't just the ref get fined, and not the coach? I love this Stalin-esque stifling of coaches' and players' right to speak out about things. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

That is pretty jacked up if you ask me, I mean you fine Doc but you fine Bill Kennedy as well.
If your taking actions toward Bill Kennedy for his wrong doings then wtf are you finning Doc cause he spoke out about the B.S tech??????????? :lol:
